It happens. I had sold a set of 4 Beatles video tapes to somebody in Canada on Ebay. He payed thru PayPal and I shipped the package 3 day delivery.

After a month it hadn't shown up, and we went through the tracking number hassle too. After 6 weeks, I refunded the guys money and just accepted the loss(the tapes and the cost of shipping :x ). The next day, the guy emailed me that it arrived and he paid me again thru PayPal. He was very patient and very cool about the whole thing. He could have kept the package and his money and I never would have known. He said it happens to him all of the time with stuff coming from outside Canada.

Since then my Ebay auctions are US only although I recently did some private deals with AA members in Canada and the UK. Both of those packages arrived quickly and without a problem.

Canada Post loses a lot of stuff and they have no clue where it goes.

Back in the summer of 2003 I had a package delivered to my door, but since no one was home they left a card for me to pick up the package at the local Postal Outlet. When I arrived at the local Postal Outlet to pick up the parcel, I was told that it had not yet been delivered (usually you can pick up your parcel the same day the card is left at your door.) So, I showed up the next day and got the same story. Sure enough it can't take 2 days to deliver something a few blocks from my house to the local postal outlet? On the third day I was told to call Canada Post and ask where the package actually was delivered. Sure enough, they had no clue where my package was. Many phone calls later (and after 2 months) I finally received a refund from the shipper (who was reimbursed by Canada Post)

Guess what? Two weeks ago I receive a package... it was the lost package from several months ago. Thats right, it took about 7 months to deliver it, but it arrived. No damage, didn't look like it was opened, with the original postmark on it. Maybe you'll be that lucky.

Oh I have other stories but they would take pages of space here.

My mom sent me a letter with my new driver's liscence and $20 and they managed to lose that. Within Canada. If someone steal's my identity like in all those movies im not going to be a happy camper.

I just had a buyer emailing me asking where his package was that I had shipped a long time before. Damn Post Office :x

I would say your package is gone if it has taken this long to arrive.

I had a Canadian seller send me a single cart on 10-15-03. I exchanged several e-mails with the seller and was confident that they did indeed ship the cart, but it never arrived. I can only conclude that it was lost in the mail. Maybe it's not fair, but I blame Canada Post because I've never had a package lost when shipping within the U.S....although, I've had several arrive damaged. :x

CPUWIZ, did you send the game by ground or airmail?

If she included cash and it was in an envelope then for sure it was intercepted and opened. Canada Post is bad about that in particular. :|

Note: I didn't learn this lesson myself, my relatives did though. ;)

For Christmas we sent a package to relatives in Canada at the start of December, it just did arrive this January, a month and a half later.

As much as I like the possibility of living there again in the future I dread having to resort to their mail system.

Canada post is very odd, I had a strange experience with them last year.

2 parcels from somewhere called nova scotia I think (North somewhere ?) from different people, 1 took 6 weeks (Supposedly airmail ??), but the other was sent on the thursday and arrived monday (Which surprised the seller even more than it did me !) How is this possible ?

The UK postal service is, like all British institutions total crap nowadays, but I take heart from knowing that someone else has it worse than me........

The worst is the fact that the Canadian post office actually admitted that they received the package. I inquired about this at my post office (wasted 30 minutes with those clowns) and they said that they got confirmation that it was delivered to the Canadian post office. :x

Heck nevermind Canada Post, what about Canada Customs (& Revenue now too! oh boy!). For you non-canuck guys and girls, our custom guys are now also our equivalent of the US Internal Revenue Service...IRS)

I rec'd a package of what was supposed to be 2 PS2 games. There was customs tape all over it, you know the customs tape they kind of try to put the package back together with after they've destroyed it.

I only rec'd only one game now, the very popular DDR Max was missing...

1st Customs guy: "Say, this is DDR Max, my kid wants this game for Christmas..."

2nd Customs guy: "what game?" -wink

1st Customs guy: -wink.

But I'm not bitter...

On the other hand we've all had good things happen too. I won a lot of 4 Genesis carts, didn't receive them. The seller assured me they indeed went out... I didn't insure it (usually a waste of money for small stuff). The seller and I waited a bit, still no games. Bang! he refunded my PayPal payment and we both decided better luck next time. (This is where having a lot of +feedback can help you, I'm obviously honest.)

THAT is how you get repeat bussiness, I've had a few transactions go south and that's the first time the seller ate the loss, I was very impressed as I've had to eat my fair share of losses.

I just bought a tech book with a CD in it from half.com. The guy put it in one of those tyvek express mail envelopes, marked it "computer media", and the postal worker STILL folded the thing in half to jam it in my mailbox (no small feat with a 400+ page book), snapping the CD in two. Express mail doesn't come with insurance and I really can't blame the seller for a very blatant USPS fuckup.

I guess sometimes you just lose. But it sure reinforces my own "UPS/Fedex only" policy....

So how long should it take for a letter from Canada to California to reach me. One of my buyers sent me payment over a week ago express mail and still nothing.

Boy, these horror stories about postal services makes me shiver.

I was scammed once on ebay when I bought three saturn games from a guy in Taiwan. I paid extra for EMS (Express Mail Service) and never received it. I lost US$ 76.00. The idiots at their postal service lost or robbed my package. Tthe seller was no help about refunding my money (maybe he got the insurance money for himself), He just started a new ebay ID and I became tired from trying to get my money back. And so life goes on...

It was my 1st time on Ebay. Not a very good way to start. But I learned two important things: Thou shall never buy anything from Taiwan and thou shall never buy many items from the same seller at once.

I hope your package will eventually arrive at your home.

Oh, by the way its my first post so... Hi!

Welcome TLH! Interesting handle and avatar. :D

I've gotten stuff from Taiwan, Japan, and Australia multiple times without any problems, but maybe I've just been lucky so far. SS and I are both waiting on a Japanese seller who had Mr. Driller Ace GBA for sale, and neither of us have received it yet despite paying promptly. Not even as much as a shipping confirmation. :P

Thanks MegaManFan! :)

I never had problems with items from Japan. Two items came by EMS and one by Airmail.

But I think that a seller have the obligation to sent a shipping confirmation to the buyer. Specially when they both are separated by a ocean...

I get a little pissed when they didn't do it. :x
