different joysticks for sixer,4 switch, vader and sears?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone:

I just wanted to know if the atari joysticks were different for the early heavy sixers,4 switchers, vaders and sears ones.the reason I'm asking is because I came across a complete boxed vader system that looks factory new(even the atari power inverter is carefully coiled in its mint purple box),and the joysticks on this one are completely blacked out(no orange or yellow mrkings on the borders).Let me know of any info on this.

Thanks,

bond007pr :)

The Heavy 6er joysticks didn't have the "Top" marking on it, and they were also spring-loaded and some of them have an alumnium hex disk on the top of the stick. The joysticks for the regular 6er and the 4-switch were the same. The joysticks for the Vader and the Jr were blacked out.

Thanks apollo boy for the guidance. One other thing:

I also have a4 switcher console with the top border around the controls yellow-colored instead of the normal orange-colored border. Is this a special model?year specific edition or something like that?

Thanks,

I've got so many of the original ones. They act up a lot, though. My dad says it's inherited bad luck. Good thing I know how to fix them. there's one I used so much the paint came off  but it's the best joystick I have.

Edit: I have a promo console too. The switches are messed up on it. I really need to fix that thing.

thanks a lot Apollo and CPUWIZ for the guidance of the joysticks. The console I was speking about doesn't seems to be faded,as the button instructions(power, game select etc. are also yellow and in perfect readable condition, not fading away as supposed to be seen if it was a really fading console).

Thanks a lot!!!,

bond007pr :D

I also haven't got any luck at fleamarkets. As amatter of fact I don't know where to look for fleamarkets that may have any atari stuff,(got any suggestions????????)The yellow border console was brought in from Pa or AZ I believe from a co-worker's friend that had it on his basement.this co-worker mentioned to me when I told him I collected atari stuff and that's how it ended up in MI. :)

I've tried Salvation Army, Value World, Pawn shops - nothing! Except for a few common carts every now and then. Next time I'm out of town in the middle of nowhere, I'm searching the local thrift stores. Seems like the rural areas are the best places to get stuff from what I'm seeing on this site.

actually ther are THREE versions of the first year sticks.. the very first ones had a very thin cable and the end (were it plugs into the vcs) was slightly different, the second version of the first year stick is like the one above and the third version had a boot and lock ring similiar to newer sticks (these are prob the rarest and I thought most of em were 'made up' until I scored a traceable, original vcs system with a set of these sticks as originals) neat stuff ;)

i finally figured out what you mean by "thin" cord. i've found two thin cord original sticks and about a half dozen of the thick cords. i've been using one of the thin cords for the last couple weeks, testing in prep to sell on ebay. i never realized it was the "thin" version until i held it next to one of the thick cords.

are you sure the thin one is the original design? i opened up a couple sticks. inside both the thin cords is a green "rev 5" atari board attached to a black piece of plastic board on one side. on the inside of some of the others is a brown board with no rev number attached on one side to a white piece of plastic. oddly enough, one had a shorter cord with the wires soldered directly to the board.

i don't know what to look for regarding the boot and lock ring.

yupper, it was first.. I imagin they listed revisions on the board until they finally had a 'final' revision set in stone.. I estimate the thin cords to have been produced for 2-3 months?? they prob had a HugE return rate.. I would suggest not using yours;) take a close look at the atari logo on the pugs end.. its inverted were the other is extended from the base:) also, the ealry ones are a softer rubber than the later.. neato stuffo.. the thin wires came on paddles and driving controls too

also, the 'solder' job.. was prob someones repair.. alot of times the brass wire connectors crack and loosen up.. Ive done this repair alot myself..

I even have a revision of the heavy sixer stick circuit board that doesn't have any markings whatsoever. No part number or revision number.

I know this isn't Auction central,, but since we were just talking about these I figured I'd show this in here too.. ther is a 'thin' wire first year model in this auction.. they were more common to come with sears units for the sears units were some of the first to flood the market due to the good relationship between atari and sears.. the stick on the right is a thin-wire, the one one the left looks like a thick wire version,, bothe are deff first year models.. if shipping wan't so hi I would of bid..

WOW. your eyes must be much better than mine. how in the WORLD did you spot the thin wire? i look at the pic in the auction now, and honestly, i would not think one was a thin wire if you had not told me.

can you see the difference in wire thickness or is it just from the sharper bends you get in the thin wire that clued you in on these two?

no rubber = increases your chances getting some sort of VD (Videogaming Disease)

first off.. your most likely to find a thin wire one a early sears unit,, and two.. its easier to see with the thick wire right next to it for compairison:)

In the earlier sticks the PCB (bubble contact) board has wire connections on both sides .. whereas later sticks have the wire connections on one side only.
