maibock #1 Posted February 8, 2004 Rarely do I look at GBA games but my son ask me to pick up a Megaman game on the way home from work. While looking through the assorted games I saw Yars Revenge in a "used" box and thought it to be curious. Was this the same 2600 game? or a different game for the GB? Rocko #3 Posted February 8, 2004 I heard about that game in a different thread (must have gameboy games). I was astonished they made it for the GBC, an old 2600 game! Try the rom, it is almost the same but also different. A good game though!

maibock #5 Posted February 8, 2004 @maibock: Did you buy it or did you resisted the temptation? I bought the Megaman game as instructed, then I bought Namco Museum. I'm not real big into the GBA, but my kids are. Yars revenge was one of those games I just didn't expect to see. Maybe I'll pick it up next time, it was only 14 bucks.. Avid Fan #6 Posted February 8, 2004 Namco Museum is a must have for the GBA. It even looks good on the GB Player. I've really been wanting to get it for the cube so I can have all the pac-man games, and since I had to give my pac-man collection to my GF
Ze_ro #7 Posted February 9, 2004 I have Yar's Revenge for the Gameboy, and it's not that great. You have no choice of game type, so I hope you enjoyed game type 6 from the 2600 (I like it the best, so it's not a huge concern for me), because that's what you get. The main problem though is that the screen scrolls left and right... they put markers on the side of the screen to show where things are, but it's really annoying anyways. Could have been a lot better. --Zero
Room 34 #8 Posted February 9, 2004 Ugh! How could you play Yars' Revenge with scrolling? Horrible! C'mon now, really... it's not like the 2600 version is so high-res that they couldn't have made a reasonable adaptation that would fit on the GameBoy screen without scrolling. Here is a video.
ubersaurus #10 Posted February 9, 2004 Yars Revenge was done as a homebrew that Telegames picked up and sold. That said, it's one of my favorite GBC games. Scrolling works well enough, although I'd rather it not happen, it's just a limitation of the GBC's screen. As you get further into the game, however, you'll realize this is far more then a port. They do some pretty cool stuff later on, that I'd rather not spoil, but all I'll say is.. Ever wonder how you'd blow up the qotile when there is no energy shield around it? Ze_ro #11 Posted February 9, 2004 Ever wonder how you'd blow up the qotile when there is no energy shield around it? You eat the shield to power your cannon... but don't you also get power from touching the Qotile? --Zero
ZeroWing #12 Posted February 9, 2004 If they really wanted to capture the feel of the original Yar's Revenge, they should have packed in a cool comic book!
