tantone56 #1 Posted February 8, 2004 Wow I just found out that the atari 2600 has a multicart. Does anyone here have one?
SS #2 Posted February 8, 2004 Well there's the 32 in 1 that's PAL only. There's the Sean Kelley one that came out a couple of years back (no longer for sale, BTW). There were also quite a number of pirate multi-carts released in Brazil, Hong Kong, and elsewhere. Any others worthy of mention that I'm missing? bjk7382 #6 Posted February 8, 2004 The one at 4jays is DIP switch operated, not menu like the Sean Kelly one. I think that dip switches with that many games would make me go crazy. I don't even like messing with the swithces on my 8 in 1 and the Dactars.
tantone56 #7 Posted February 8, 2004 whats a dip switch?
video game addict #8 Posted February 8, 2004 The SK one was originally a dip version.
holygrailvideogames.com #9 Posted February 8, 2004 The 2600 multicart that I have on Bidiots is the menu version. I believe that the dipswitch version has the same games, but you have to change the switches for each game that you want to play. 4jays doesn't keep their web site updated so they might not have it in stock. You would have to email or call them. If anyone is interested in the one that I have listed, the auction ends tonight. I also would accept a money order if anyone is interested in it. http://www.bidiots.com/detail.asp?id=
bjk7382 #10 Posted February 8, 2004 The SK one was originally a dip version. I thought SK's was a larger version of Paul Slocum's menu driven prototype.
video game addict #11 Posted February 8, 2004 I think SK was selling his first. The menu driven ones have just been out the last couple years.
bjk7382 #12 Posted February 8, 2004 I think SK was selling his first. The menu driven ones have just been out the last couple years. Yeah, I don't think I would want to own a multicart with that many games without a menu. I have added the picture for tantone. The dip switch is in the upper right hand corner. You need to look at a list that shows the positions of the switches for each game and then you flip the tiny switches to get each diff. game.
holygrailvideogames.com #13 Posted February 8, 2004 SK made both the dip switch and the menu version of these carts. He no longer makes either one. Paul Slocum wrote the program for the menu driven version and I don't remember if SK traded for it or bought the program. SK stopped making the dip switch version for both his 2600 and 5200 carts when he started making the menu versions. The only multicart that he still sells is his Vectrex multicart, but I hear that it isn't real easy to get one. I hear that SK is working about 80 hours a week right now. NE146 #14 Posted February 8, 2004 Here's a pic of my Sean Kelly multicart... Yep, it's dipswitched. Like on the 5200 version, I jumped the gun before they got all nice and fancy. Still cool though.. too bad I lost the dipswitch settings oh man

I hear that SK is working about 80 hours a week right now. Well that's good news since I've been trying to get one! (for that Vectrex bought from you actually ) Sean hasn't answered my email written a couple weeks ago though I do understand he's busy however. But that's good to hear that there still may be some chance....
R.Cade #16 Posted February 9, 2004 Is there a market for this sort of thing? I've made my own setup that plays most of the games, except for the bankswitched Parker Brothers roms. I can turn these out fairly easily and inexpensively. Can even do ones with F6/F8 bankswitching, for a little more. I don't know how you'd handle licensing, though... maybe send me the bins you want on it so I'm not providing them?

Once that comes out any multi cart will be replaced and superceded.

I really like that one but it was out of my price range Well im also looking for a vectrex multicart so I dont know if they have it at the philly classic or not but ill look
R.Cade #19 Posted February 9, 2004 No offense, but that's insanely expensive just to play some old games. I'm thinking 1/4 that price at least.
tantone56 #20 Posted February 9, 2004 Rcade I suggest you run while you can... They smell fresh blood and within minutes after they read the post it's all over for you...RUN!!!
R.Cade #21 Posted February 9, 2004 For what? It's $200! Surely I'm not the only one that thinks that's high. Grab a soldering iron and $2 worth of 27c040's and 7404's and make them yourself! It takes, what, 20 minutes? Now a CC, it won't be, but it plays the games...
bjk7382 #22 Posted February 9, 2004 You get what you pay for...... Plus I hate dip switchs.
R.Cade #23 Posted February 9, 2004 Granted... I've made the carts and still buy the originals. Something about looking at all the labels on the shelf. The CC2 is a fantastic piece of engineering, but $100 is my limit for gadgets.
