Rocko #1 Posted February 9, 2004 I have an XBOX, a LYNX and a PS2, and I have a JAG on the way. I can get a 7800, but I dont know... I dont have the time (or the funds) to support all of them, and I feel kinda nerdy already owning 4 consoles. Should I get the 7800?

The more the merrier, I say. When you get sick of playing one, you put it away for 6 months or a year and then take it out and its like new all over again. sku_u #4 Posted February 9, 2004 Concentrate on what you already have. There will be plenty of time to pick up a 7800 in the future.

Jasoco #8 Posted February 9, 2004 I have 12 Consoles all hooked up at once. There's nothing wrong with that. How DARE you call me a Nerd! I am a GEEK! Got it?
ApolloBoy #9 Posted February 9, 2004 Heh. I have so many systems, I have to have 2 TVs for them. Here the systems that are hooked up to these rooms... My Room 2600 800XL 7800 VIC-20 NES SMS Genesis Family Room Gamecube PS2 N64 SNES
SteveW #10 Posted February 9, 2004 I feel kinda nerdy already owning 4 consoles. What? Four consoles? You're an amateur! I have 18 machines in my room right now, and even more in storage! You have a problem with owning only four consoles? You aren't a real nerd if you can see the floor through the web of cables and cords piled up on it! You are far from nerd-dom, my friend. I'm neck deep in it. And loving it.
Jasoco #11 Posted February 9, 2004 I have 12, and I have yet to get a PS2, 3DO, Genesis 3, PSOne or any of the other old Atari's. That and a Virtual Boy which I wouldn't really know whether to count it as a Console or Handheld.

The beauty of having the 7800 is that you will also have a 2600 with it. So you really would be getting 2 systems.
sigma #13 Posted February 9, 2004 quality, not quanity people I've "only" got a NES, SNES, PS2, GCN, and the original gameboy, with the possibility of a 5200 and a 2600 in the future, and I am quite content with them.
Ze_ro #14 Posted February 9, 2004 It depends on the price. If you're getting a good deal on it, then I say go for it. If you decide you don't have the time for all 4 at the moment, then put one or two of them away for the time being and concentrate on the other ones. Just because you have four consoles doesn't mean you have to go hardcore on all of them. Hell, I have consoles sitting in my basement that I have NO games for at all! Similarly, I have games for consoles that I don't own! This hobby is only what you make of it, we're not going to chastise you if you don't get a 7800, or if you don't actually play it. --Zero

When people call me a collector, I actually consider it something of an insult (I am a collector of course... but I'd rather people think of me as a gamer first and a collector second). --Zero

hex65000 #23 Posted February 9, 2004 What's wrong with a bunch of consoles? For me, one word: SPACE. (mind you this has done nothing to stop/slow me down) Just a breif cross-section of what I have 'in service': Xbox, DC, NGC, Saturn, PS2, PS1, N64, SNES, Jaguar,Genesis1, 2600, 5200. I recently moved the Cube to my room so I wouldn't run down the batteries on my advance. (Yes, I'm still playing the Medabots RPG) I will do some odd things however, such as I only intend to own about 30 NES games. Everything else I just refer to on my NesterDC disc. The emulation is nice and most importantly it saves me space. Oh, and save-states are sooo nice... This same concept has got me kicking around what I want to do with a couple of Genny machines I have. I don't need 6 different Genesis machines. I finally managed to get rid of my Genesis 3. The other rigs are harder to decide on though. I think the result will be me keeping a Genesis 1, 2, and my Nomad so that I can use all the various attachments for the system -- the Nomad is just cuddly bar-none. I'll give up the X-Eye system and CDx rigs I have. Both have merits, but a Genny2 can do it all (including the 32x games) and the 1 can drive the power-base unit. The 2x cd drive I suspect I can take or leave. Although... that little guy is mighty cute... Hrm... mebbe I leave it at my girlfriend's house and a copy of Columns and Sonic CD... I will also ditch arcade-retro-packs as I approach the best implementation possible. Midway treasures allowed me to dump a couple of SNES and DC games because I now had all of the above in near-perfect translation on the X-crate. Boo-Yah! However you will pry my PSx Namco Museum set out of my rusted clawed hand... Hex. [ It's value is directly proportionate to how much fun it is... ]
Susuwatari #24 Posted February 10, 2004 Right now I have a grand total of 18 consoles hooked up to one TV and also: satellite, DVD player, VCR, and antenna. I would have 19 consoles but I keep running into problem getting 5200 to AV and I haven't put the RF hookup back yet. Let see: a gaming God would have all that I have plus, original Odyssey, Coleco Telstar, Fairchild Channel F, Astrocade, CDi, 3DO, Neo Geo, and XBox to one TV plus laser disc player, CED player, and VTR. @[email protected] And still not get a peep from FCC. Clint Thompson #25 Posted February 10, 2004 Haha... most my snicker at my response? but anyways... Why not just pick up a Dreamcast? Then you could have a NES, SNES, SMS, GENESIS, 2600,7800 (still being worked on right?), LYNX (in the works), Atari 800 and a lot of other emulators that run fine on the Dreamcast =) Of course.... I always prefer the "real" thing. If space is a concern and your looking for a cheap system (probably cheaper then a 7800) then I'd go DC
