Dolt #1 Posted February 12, 2004 I got a press release this morning on what Jakks is showing at Toy Fair this year--included is the following: TV Games: JAKKS presents new introductions of the Company's award-winning TV Games line based on top entertainment properties and the hottest names in gaming. JAKKS' newest titles, SpongeBob SquarePants TV Games and Activison TV Games, are joined by Ms. Pac-Man® TV Games, Atari® Paddle TV Games and Dragon Ball® TV Games to top the list of exciting new titles expected for this year. For more information on JAKKS Pacific's TV Games, visit www.jakkstvgames.com. The Ms. Pac-Man game machine will include Galaga (yay!) and Pole Position, as well as two others that escape me at the moment. I tried going to their website, and it mentions the new additions, but doesn't give any info on them, so there's no info on the paddle games controller. Perhaps they'll re-do Circus Atari so you can actually play it!

What games will be on the Paddle Controller game? Blackjack?, Video Olympics, Circus Atari? Casino? What unplayable joystick games will they put on the Paddle Controller? Space Invaders? How about Indy 500? Now if they got Joe Grand to license SCSICide for this ... Hmm! Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
Mr.FoodMonster #4 Posted February 12, 2004 I saw the spongebob one at EB a couple weeks ago, it was really weird. The stick was his nose and the rest was his face. I was scared deeply.
Inky #5 Posted February 12, 2004 What unplayable joystick games will they put on the Paddle Controller? Space Invaders? Space Invaders may work pretty good.... Remember Astroblast?

raindog #7 Posted February 13, 2004 What games will be on the Paddle Controller game? Blackjack?, Video Olympics, Circus Atari? Casino? ...Kaboom? Remember, they do have rights to at least some Activision games. I'd be happy to see Astroblast too, though the BSR probably couldn't license it due to whatever deal they made with the pirate-NES-running-lousy-ports-of-intv-games people... What unplayable joystick games will they put on the Paddle Controller? Space Invaders? How about Indy 500? Hey, I always wished for paddle control in SI In this day and age I gotta think "paddle" will mean "rotary controller". Remember, these games are at least partially ported, not emulated. Night driver, Indy, really anything that used or could be made to use a knob is fair game, I think. I bet we see Super Breakout again too.
SteveW #8 Posted February 13, 2004 Astroblast was good with a joystick, but it rocked with a paddle controller.
Rhindle The Red #9 Posted February 13, 2004 I *knew* there'd be another Atari branded "TV Games" console. These things have been selling very, very well. I'll definitely get it, although I fear the hardware will make it difficult to fit it all in a standard 2600 paddle/steering controller casing. I doubt there will be Activision and Atari titles on one machine due to separate licences, but it would be nice if there were. I didn't see anyone mention that there is a "Spiderman" console listed as well. If it's out in time, it will be the *perfect* gift for my nephew's birthday. It would be his first real video game of his own. They also list a "Pinball" console. An odd choice, but it will look nice next to my Atari C-380 Video Pinball console. +uosipa llamxew #10 Posted February 13, 2004 I saw the spongebob one at EB a couple weeks ago, it was really weird. The stick was his nose and the rest was his face. I was scared deeply. I saw this a while back too, but didn't really check it out. Has anyone played the games? Are they any good? I'm really interested in seeing the standalone paddle game system. :-) I haven't bought any of the others because of the poor reviews I've read about them. Tonight I was checking out LikSang and saw some nifty standalone game systems... one was a 2-player steering wheel control with a racing game. Another was an updated version of Dragon Warrior, that you play with a sword and you actually slash at the screen!?! It looked pretty cool really. Maybe when I get some money... Thomas Jentzsch #11 Posted February 13, 2004 I'm really interested in seeing the standalone paddle game system. :-) Me too. Reproducing the controls for those games will be the critical factor. 90° on the VCS paddle should be also 90° on the new paddle. But since every paddle game uses completely different paddle polling intervalls and therefore has different value ranges they'd have to do some heavy (probably software based) tweaks. Else the results would be even more disappointing than the joystick games.
tillenterprises #12 Posted February 13, 2004 I bought all the other JAKs controllers, and will continue to do so, but... I am disappointed by the NAMCO one with Pac-Man, Galaxian, Bosconian, etc. Did anyone else notice that you cannot move diagonally? This really takes away from Bosconian, and makes Rally-X harder to play. If I'm in the mood for a good game of Bosconian, I'll pull out the NAMCO museum for Playstation instead. tillenterprises #13 Posted February 13, 2004 Looks like they also redesigned the Activision one (no more joypad- now it's also a joystick). I wonder if they fixed all the display glitches they had with the original version... http://www.jakkstvgames.com./activision.html
Lauren Tyler #14 Posted February 13, 2004 What were the display glitches? Also, a Namco package with Pole Position! Oh Joy of Joys!
tillenterprises #15 Posted February 13, 2004 What were the display glitches? On many of the games, there was additional "junk sprites" around some of the characters- particularly noticable on River Raid. I'll try turning up the brightness on my TV, but as I tried it, Atlantis is unplayable, since you can't see the missiles you're firing.
Dolt #16 Posted February 13, 2004 There was crap on the screen in a few games, colors were off, and one game was flat out unplayable (I seem to think it was Atlantis, but it's been so long since I dragged that thing out that I don't really remember). Sounds were screwy too.
PongHit #17 Posted February 14, 2004 What games will be on the Paddle Controller game? Breakout &/or Super Breakout, I'd assume... and probably Night Driver, Circus Atari, & some sort of Pong too. Of course Kaboom would be da bomb! Let's hope... -PongHit

slapdash #20 Posted February 15, 2004 Could someone post or email/PM me direct links for the paddle, Spiderman, Ms Pac-Man and pinball games? They've apparently coded their page in a way that isn't friendly to IE 5 on a Mac. :-(
hanglyman #21 Posted February 15, 2004 Yeah, their web site does'nt work for me either, it works about as good as their crummy games
Dino from Bula #22 Posted February 16, 2004 Try the Intellivision gadget...it's worse than the Atari one... at least the Atari deal from Jakks is based on the real deal...
raindog #23 Posted February 16, 2004 I looked at the javascript for the paddle, and the Spiderman thing, and the Ms. Pac-man thing. They all have an URL of "" (blank). At first I thought it was me because I run Linux, but it doesn't even work under IE6. I figure they'll make the links live during or after the toy fair.
