"Super Mario Land 2" is OK but the original is, IMHO, one of the best Mario games on any platform!

um, yeah, Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins. There's also a third, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. And I hope you didn't pay too much for it, it was the pack-in until 2 came out.

I don't think SML was a pack in game for very long. I do know Gameboy started out with Tetris for a long time and then Nintendo changed the game every once in a while. I remember at one time Zelda 4 was a pack in game.

I never saw a GameBoy/Mario anything package.

I saw GameBoy Tetris(LOTS of GB/Tetris), and a limited GameBoy Zelda, but never GameBoy/Mario.

I don't remember Super Mario Land ever being a Gameboy pack-in game.

I am not sure if it was a pack-in or what, but I know that it was the first game I ever owned for the original GB. I sold the whole package years ago for a good price. I probly shouldn't have now that I think about it.

Super Mario Land was a fun game... although it's rather primitive, even for a Gameboy game. It has some very odd differences from the rest of the Mario games... like instead of throwing bouncing fireballs, you fire bouncing balls that will bounce off walls and ceilings and such. There are also many bizarre enemies... like instead of normal Koopa Troopa's, you get turtles whose shells explode after you kill them.

Super Mario Land 2 was my favorite. The game sort of feels a bit like SMB3, but on a smaller scale. You get a nice world map that you can move around, seperate themed worlds, secret levels, good level design, and decent bosses. Great game all-around. I don't remember the music being anything spectacular though, and some new powerups would have been nice.

Wario Land was called SML3, but it's really quite a bit different. Wario himself plays a lot differently. Instead of holding B to run, you press it to do a charge move... you can run into most enemies and knock them around without getting hurt (just don't run into their spikes, spears, etc), as well as pick them up and throw them around... and all your powerups are hats which give you some unique powerups. Also, the main point of this game is generally to get as much money as possible, rather than just getting to the end of each level (By the way, there are something like 5 different endings depending on how much money you finished the game with). This is also a very good game, but I'm not sure if I'd really group it with the rest of the Mario Land games.

The rest of the Wario Land games sucked in my opinion.

One other point to bring up about the bouncing fireballs you can throw...they can collect coins for you in "hard-to-reach" places.

That first GB Mario game is still one of my favorites.

Although I felt it was too easy...I was able to beat the game in just 2 lives the first time I picked it up...

I distinctly remember a Land pack-in, but that's probably just fuzzy memory, but Land 2 was definetly a pack-in at one time, because that's what came with my GB.

I know Tetris came with my original brick GameBoy when I got one for Christmas, and I was actually kind of pissed about it because I just assumed it would come with a Mario game since the NES did. Little did I know how addicted to Tetris I would be. I know I got Mario Land shortly thereafter, because I even had the box cut up and tacked to my wall (I did that with all my boxed GB games back then).

I managed to pick up a copy at a pawn shop for $6, but only after being outbid on one three or four times on eBay for $8 and $10.

Mario Land 1 was a pretty decent game, but I think 2 owned it completely, in terms of graphics, gameplay, and sound.

The wario land games were cool, but I never got really into them past the first one. 4 is pretty tight though-they dropped that whole "wario can't die" aspect, and made it more like the first game.

The one thing that really bugged me about the Wario Land game was how you'd often come across blocks that would show a picture of fire on them... so you knew you had to get yourself lit on fire, and then walk through them.

This sounds like a good idea at first, but then you realize they put no actual thought into it. Why do these blocks only react to fire? Or why do some blocks only react to enemies being thrown at them? It seems so forced! If instead, the wall was made out of wood and you had to make the "fire burns wood" connection yourself, it would have been much better. These kind of "artificial" puzzles showed up far too often, and bugged the hell out of me. Luckily, the first Wario Land game didn't do this much.

Wario Land 4 has a lot of those silly puzzles, but for some reason I still enjoyed it. :D GBA graphics and controls helped a lot, I'm sure.

The original Mario Land was awesome. But strangely out of place much like Mario 2. Except closer to a normal Mario game.

It has ? blocks and "Bricks" but they're not exactly the same bricks. They're single blocks.

The enemies are much different, there is a Goomba-like enemy, and a Koopa type enemy, but the Koopa blows up when stomped on rather than kicking the shell. Weird.

The enemies and bosses aren't like you'd expect. The lion at the end of the first world, the sea horse in world 2, the Easter Island enemy in 3 and that cloud then Tatanga at the end of 4. Never seen again. Much like Wart.. where's HE these days? Unlike Bowser who's come back every chance he gets.

Each world had a different theme. As did the levels. They were all unique.

I loved the world 2 and 4 final levels. First in a submarine with missiles, then in a plane with bullets. The music is in my head right now.

The later games changed the graphics to more Mario scale images, but the first will always be a classic I owned twice.
