George Gray
Just saw this from Gamespy: JAKKS Gets Midway License - Rhoam JAKKS Pacific has announced that they have landed a licensing deal with Midway to produce a version of the TV Games console that will feature classic Midway titles. Some of the titles included in the new console are: Joust, Marble Madness, Spy Hunter, and Robotron: 2084. TV Games consoles are standalone gaming machines that connect directly to the television using standard audio and video connectors.
Vic George 2K3
Not sure how they'd pull that one off without making some sacrifices here and there, unless they'd make it into a Playstation Dual Shock-type controller, for example, to make Robotron 2084 playable. SteveW
Was Robotron available for the NES? Because that's probably the version they'll use. Since that's what the hardware essentially is.
PaulEMoz
Bit odd that, considering the recent release of Midway Arcade Treasures on the consoles. I suppose there will be some out there without consoles that will buy it, but I'm betting it doesn't sell as well as the Namco stick. raindog
I dunno, Namco Museum and stuff like it has been coming out for PC's and consoles for about 10 years now and it didn't hurt the Pac-Man stick any. Then again, it had Pac-Man on it, and I think that's a little better known than Robotron or MM. Also, I don't think the Jakks sticks are NES based; people figured out pretty quick the INTV ones were but I've never heard of anyone identifying just what makes the Jakks ones tick. Phosphor Dot Fossils
If it's done right, this could be awesome. If it isn't...it'll be the goat. Scary thing, with this, and the announcement of the Ms. Pac-Man stick, and a couple more 2600 thingies, you could almost become a collector of...Jakks Pacific TV Games! Let alone what they're originally based on.
raindog
I'm already a collector of "classic games built into joysticks" with the caveat that I only want one of each kind (so I only have one NES-alike, though I bought a second one for my nieces to play....) but I don't have much interest in the Spongebob or Spiderman games-in-a-controller, for example, as far as Jakks goes. KaineMaxwell
Robotron never came out for the NES. Closest was probably the port of Smash TV on the NES. Intresting news though.
Agent57
I notice that JAKKS also has "Atari Paddle" and "Pinball" in their list of games on their site, although you can't read anything about them. I'm most interested in the "Atari Paddle" game and what's gonna be on it. Oh, to have Super Breakout in a TV handheld with a good paddle controller...I guess we'll see!
