Xot #26 Posted February 21, 2004 If you press Up and Start on controller 2 while paused, the game ends and does not record a number on the counter. So if you catch yourself immediately before you die, you can continue as if you DID die but it isn't counted. This is wicked tough to do though and do it EVERY time you die, its much easier to just beat it straight through. Oh, not doubting you, Stan, just clearing up the info. If someone ELSE wants to cheat, now they know how! Or emulators with save states work too.
sigma #27 Posted February 21, 2004 I thought it was possible to go through the game without getting a sword, or maybe that's just bs bragging.

StanJr #29 Posted February 21, 2004 As a follow up, I beat the second quest today and did so in pretty short order! Only 12 "deaths." Not bad I must say, I figured the number would be higher.
shep #30 Posted February 22, 2004 If you wanna play a good zelda ripoff...check out Neutopia and Neutopia 2 for the TurboGrafx 16....
chrisbid #31 Posted February 22, 2004 Ok Stan the Man ™ Since you on your Zelda craze, its time to plow through Zelda II I know that a lot of people rip on this game, but i like it a lot, as the sword fighting is top notch as far as NES games go. The Mazes are fairly simple except for the Great Palace at the end of the game, but its quite difficult to beat this game without using a continue. if nothing else, you can use your imagination as to how the women in those towns are able to recover link's life and magic so fast
StanJr #32 Posted February 22, 2004 Funny you said that, because yesterday I sat down and BEAT Adventure of Link, but of course, beating that with 0 continues is like TOTALLY impossible, HOWEVER, I did do pretty well as you can see below. I really really love BOTH of these games, perhaps two of the best games for the NES, hands down.

Well, I don't know about that (And it's been years since I've played...) but the magic wand was the equivalent to the second sword in power and short-range you could stab monsters with it just as easily. The kicker was that you had to have the silver arrows to finish ganon off, otherwise his hp basically reset and he kept going. I should try to get a copy of the game again... I find myself wanting to go through it, although I think I'd prefer going without swords again rather than without saving! -- Mord
Joe C. #34 Posted February 22, 2004 After you've beatin the game do you ever go back and try and find all the secret passage ways by either burning a tree or blowing up some rock?
NE146 #35 Posted February 22, 2004 After you've beatin the game do you ever go back and try and find all the secret passage ways by either burning a tree or blowing up some rock? You do that within the game if you know it well enough. It's the quick and easy way to snag 100 coins at a time if you know where to look. Oh, and also get extra heart containers to get the 2nd level sword faster.
StanJr #36 Posted February 23, 2004 Yeah, I always have 6 heart containers, the white sword, the blue ring, candle, 8 bombs, and the power bracelet before I ever set foot in the first labyrinth. Then again, I have made homemade maps and pretty much memorized where everything is.

StanJr #38 Posted February 23, 2004 Yeah, if I think of it. Since I don't use the potions much (labyrinth 8 and 9 usually) Otherwise I'll just pick them up when I'm in the neighborhood. I usually go ahead and pick up the meat as well, its prettty easy to come by the cash.

StanJr #40 Posted February 24, 2004 I'm "plowing" through Ocarina at the moment and after that I shall embark upon Wind Waker for the VERY FIRST TIME! We just FINALLY bought it. I also need to pick up Majora's Mask, I loved that game, but only rented it at the time. I will be the Zelda MASTER!
raindog #41 Posted February 24, 2004 I've been playing Ocarina for the last 3 months or so.... took breaks to play Bomberman Generation, the first couple levels of PMW2, and most recently Mario Kart. Never played Wind Waker despite having had it for about 6 months.... I wanna finish Ocarina first I'm on the Shadow Temple now, so I guess I'm like 2/3 of the way there. Later on, if I get through Wind Waker and don't want to commit homicide whenever that music plays, then I'll try Majora's Mask
NE146 #42 Posted February 24, 2004 If you want to get exactly what's going on in Majora's Mask before you play it, I HIGHLY recommend you go out and rent the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray Good, funny movie, and it's gives you a taste of what Majora's Mask is all about

figgler #44 Posted July 30, 2004 I did it too, beat Zelda without dying today! Man that feels good! I'll confess I did use the money making trick to get rich quick, but otherwise this is legit. My best before was 23 deaths, but I sat down last night and just rocked this game.
