doppel #26 Posted February 19, 2007 Well that was thorough. My 6502 is rusty, but I think I actually understand most of that. Have you looked at the Famicom Disk version of the game? Tempest No, I haven't. I don't know that much about the technical details concerning the Disk System.
Video #27 Posted February 19, 2007 I probably shouldn't be but I have to say I am impressed with the extensive documentation offered on this subject. This is a good example of the Internet as a source of information. Great work guys! Changing subject, why would Nintendo eliminate such a neat trick? I remember it was quite popular in the early days of Nintendo Power (and apparently it still is). IMO The "minus bug" has become a "feature" of the game. Newer versions feels less without it I know that, but then, the SNES and GBC versions are translations rather than emulations, so they would have to intentionaly put the bug back in. I missed the Bowser thing too on the GBC version. I don't know if it would still work if the original bowser sprite was used or not. Wonder if the Wii arcade thingy will support - world for SMB? AtticGamer #28 Posted February 19, 2007 It's impressive the amount of study in this bug. I think it's just a level without a World, that looks like 2-2 but since the world number isn't there, the NES doesn't know which level comes next hence it being infinite. Crimefighter #29 Posted February 19, 2007 BTW, world 4-2 going up the vine, if you slide under the mushroom blocks and slide far enough to the right side of the screen you can attempt to enter the pipes without the level numbers coming up...well it just sends you back to the start of that section but the vine is gone. I don't believe the eight trips thru the level get you out to an area that looks like 8-4 though...
Tempest #30 Posted February 20, 2007 I don't believe the eight trips thru the level get you out to an area that looks like 8-4 though... They could be confusing the FD version of SMB with the cartridge version. Since the data is stored differently in the FD version the minus world works differently. Whoa! Check this out: http://kotaku.com/gaming/super-mario-bros/...orld-203229.php The Japanese got the cool version of the minus world... Tempest
Crimefighter #31 Posted February 20, 2007 Well I at some point went and entered level codes start at 9-1, then all the letters, then a bunch of shapes. Lot were playable, some crashed the game, and that infamous T world which some guy figured out some way to play thru it even though you really can't jump thru walls.
