lonesome_pa #1 Posted February 23, 2004 Anybody try this game?? I picked it up last night for the GameCube but didn't get the chance to try it. I was wondering if anybody had any input on it. I saw that it good some good reviews.
Foxy Cleopatra #2 Posted February 24, 2004 Since I got totally flamed when I said I didn't like the game last time, I'll just say I tried to play it, and thought the story was good, but I couldn't stand the controls so I quit, when I became the girl somewhere in Asia.... bjk7382 #3 Posted February 24, 2004 I am almost done with this game, but have not played it in a long time. It just sits on the shelf 90 percent complete. It gets pretty damn hard toward the end, you have to cast all the right spells at the right time. And then they throw a giant boss at you and it is hard to stay alive. Great game though

cimerians #5 Posted February 24, 2004 Great game, might be better than Resident Evil. Twists your mind around. Very hard though. Be warned!
Foxy Cleopatra #6 Posted February 24, 2004 Ive only seen an instore demo of the game so i cant tell you how it plays, but it looks interesting it is interesting but tough to play. i'm there
lonesome_pa #7 Posted February 24, 2004 Well, I've played it for a little while tonight and it is a hard game. The controls aren't difficult, but they're not easy either. As far as better then Resident Evil, I have to disagree. The RE series is way better than this, espically the rehashed first one.
Ze_ro #8 Posted February 24, 2004 I have this game too, and it was one of my first Gamecube purchases... but I never really got into it. It's a very good game, but I'm just not much of a fan of survival horror games. The best part of this game (and it's most innovative feature) is the fact that your character gradually goes insane as the game progresses. You can stave off the insanity, but it gets harder and harder as the game goes on. If you play the game long enough, you'll see stuff like blood dripping through the walls, paintings and sculptures that "watch" you, and mysterious noises, anguished screams, gentle sobbing, and your character muttering to him/herself (As well as some other effects that will catch you by surprise... I don't want to spoil it though). If you play this game late at night with the lights off, it really does get pretty spooky. I only got as far as Karim's quest. I think I made it quite far through that level, but I came to one spot where there were just so many enemies that I couldn't hold out against the all. The stream of enemies ends with one of those huge 3-eyed monsters, but by then I've lost so much health that he just finishes me off. I got frustrated by that and gave up. --Zero
figgler #9 Posted February 24, 2004 I must say this was one of the best games I've ever played. I was right into it, thinking about it at work, reading about on the subway and savouring all the while. I thought it was the perfect marriage of story and game, plus there are 3 different ways to play depending on the colour you pick in the Pious level. I'd pay $100 for a sequel
bjk7382 #10 Posted February 24, 2004 Yeah, I love the way he goes insane and starts walking on the ceiling and blood starts dripping from the walls while there is crazy voices in the background. I am going to start trying to get to the end of this game soon I am 18 hours into it on chapter 11/12.
liveinabin #11 Posted February 24, 2004 I've got it. My wife has finished it all 3 times through. She worked out a really easy way to kill everything without getting harmed (some combination of magic and running about), I'll ask her what it is and post it here. Great game, good story, good voice acting. Controls are always a bit tricky in these kind of games initially, though nowhere near as bad as Resident Evil's terrible 'Asteroids' control system (rotate and fire, rotate and fire, repeat 'till dead). Bivotar #12 Posted February 24, 2004 This reply is kind of a "me too", but I enjoyed the game quite a bit. Using magic to enchant items and casting spells was pretty unique and interesting. I think I got about 80-90 percent complete and it just got HARD. I haven't picked it back up in a while, but would like to finish it. I'd probably have to go back through the whole game though. One of my buddies found it new at someplace like WalMart for $10. There's no question it is worth that!!! Oh, and do play it at night with the lights off.... Dones #13 Posted February 24, 2004 It's a good game that slipped under the radar. It is comparable to Resident Evil, but IMO the game doesn't try to imitate RE at all. ED has a rythm and style of its own. The controls are tight and easy to operate --- I fail to understand some statements made implying that they are not. The insanity effects are cool. Thing is you think you have seen them all. When you think you can't be tricked, the game pulls another one on you. This alone gives some incentive to keep your character's insanity bar low, just so you can see the effects more often (the game has a lot of them). Another plus is the story. They cutscenes are interesting and never take first place like say those in MGS2. I found myself playing just to see what happened nect. @lonesome: Don't forget to grab the purple rune at Lindsey's stage.
Numan #14 Posted February 24, 2004 HIghly recommended. It isn't a hard game if you're used to the Resident Evils and the Silent Hills. Also, remember your blue gauge does regenerate, so sometimes you have to wait around for that.
lonesome_pa #15 Posted March 5, 2004 This game is the shiznit! I have been playing it for almost a week straight and have a hard time putting it down. It's very creepy when you're playing in the dark and you lose your sanity. The screen goes crazy, the volume goes up and down, you get error messages about your memory card, etc. I'm about half way through and I'm already wishing they are making a sequel. Dones #16 Posted March 5, 2004 About two years ago there were some rumors of an ED sequel, but they were quicky dispelled when Silicon Knights announced their contract with konami to produce Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. IMO these guys have built up a good reputation. I hope they can release more cube titles in the future.

Shannon #19 Posted March 26, 2004 Looks like you all talked me into buying this. I've had my eye on it since the price drop. Anyways I like how they force you to fight every monster (to get back you insanity) instead of just running. Pretty clever trick.. Anyways I'm on Karim's quest. I'd probably be further but I was playing all three scenarios just to see the difference.
Raijin Z #20 Posted March 26, 2004 I LOVED how the game artificially ramped up the difficulty on the last stage by giving you ZERO DEFENSE.
Shannon #21 Posted April 12, 2004 I'm up to the level with the fireman... Talk about some cool weapons. This has really got me hooked! A few hints.. Zombies, skeletons, etc. Run around and chop of their heads first that way they cant see ya. Then go for the arms and legs. Most people suggest attacking them from behind. I never needed to do this. Always have yourself enchanted with the shield (those little things flying around your head). Use the color that beats the bad guy. Remember green beats blue beats red beats green. If you have to fight the 3 eyed monster enchant your sword and a projectile weapon. Set up an energy field and just fire away. When you have 3rd level power the guy will die just bumping into your energy field. Be patient with the crossbow. Wait till you see a 1 next to the crossbow before firing or it wont load. The bone stealer things or whatever they are, hit them in the body (not the head). Get them as fast as you can, try and take them one at a time. Save all the time that you can... When in doubt run into another room or turn back. Monsters will not follow you. You don't have to fight every monster. In alot of cases you can just run past them. Don't worry to much about your sanity, just boost it periodically. If your really in a bind just bump into a trapper you can boost your stats in that etherworld. Hardest levels are by far the reporter level (in the cathedral) and the girls grandfather's level (where that creature is running around attacking the servants). Sorry about the lack of names. I'm terrible with names. Just remember... always keep a shield powered up, it will fend off the enemies. If the shield gets low, cast another one before it's too late. The level with karim is pretty tough, but nowhere near as the above mentioned. Enjoy!
