looking to replace my rf cable, is 1 any better than another

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if someone could tell me if any 1 cable is better than another. I see sellers on ebay that say they have different quality stuff so this has me wondering about it. I also want to replace my 7800 and colecovision cables too. I don't have the coleco yet so I'm not sure of the condition of the 1 that comes with it. can you use the same cable for both the 7800 and colecovision?

Hypotheticaly, any RCA cable will do.

Thicker cables tend to have more shielding, and thus better quality signals coming out the other end

Correct.

Shielding thickness does affect the signal quality going through the cable. Other factors are cable connectors and the like, impedance matching (something I should do a bit more often  ) and cable length.

To get an idea of the variety of cable check out the following link and start looking at their products. For video applications you prolly wand to search for RG-59 cable (which comes in many varieties.)

For your reference Channels 2-4 are between 53 and 70 MHZ or so. The lower the loss is at that frequency range the less signal loss you will have.

As for buying cables pre-built, I'd sugget looking at audio/videophile sites for guidance. Not E-Pay.

Hex.

[ Has a nasty habit of putting 50ohm cable where 75ohm should be. ]
