George Gray #1 Posted February 28, 2004 Did'nt see this posted anywhere... Radica has licensed 7 Genesis games from Sega to put into a handheld ala Jakks Pacific. Sonic is included. Here's the url to the story: http://www.licensingmedia.com/news/html/iw...newproduct.html Will the madness ever end? Price is set for $29.95...a bit steep I think. We'll see. SteveW #3 Posted February 28, 2004 From what i've read, they're going to make it a mini-console that uses Sega's original Genesis controllers. I don't know how well something like this is going to do, because the Genesis is not that old. You can still pick them up cheap (i've seen piles in thrift stores recently). I don't know if there's a whole lot of nostalgia for the 3rd generation of videogames yet.
chrisbid #4 Posted February 28, 2004 this is interesting in that its the most advanced system any of these tv game systems has attempted to emulate. 30 bucks does seem a bit steep for only 7 games though :
Atari_Worshipper #5 Posted February 28, 2004 I don't know if there's a whole lot of nostalgia for the 3rd generation of videogames yet. I certainly think there is........ As far as this device, I would be very curious to find out what games other games are included... for the right games, that price might be alright. raindog #6 Posted February 28, 2004 I'll certainly be buying it.... almost bought one of those pirate 35-in-1 Genesis joypads from Hong Kong last year, but they didn't include Sonic 1 (just, like, Sonic 3 and Sonic Spinball or something like that.) I think the forthcoming Jakks Midway system, which includes Marble Madness, might be emulating more powerful hardware. But it sounds like they might actually be using a cut-down Genesis chipset for this one? That would be a first. If it weren't for the battery life I think I'd still go for a Nomad plus a pirate multicart

Around here bare Genesis consoles are common as dirt. Cables, controllers, and non-sports games are rather more rare. Something like this will definitely appeal to those people who don't want to waste their time scrounging all the parts to make a workable system -- people like me
raindog #8 Posted February 29, 2004 Don't forget the compactness issue.... I wouldn't want a real Genesis (in fact, I could probably have the one from my parents' house that's been collecting dust for about 10 years) but I'd go for a Nomad with a multicart, or one of these Radica things. Ditto the NES.
