Atarinvader #1 Posted February 29, 2004 Noticed someone is having trouble with their GP32, which got me thinking to ask a question that I have... I want one as an MP3 player (instead of an iPod), but I want to hook it up to my iMac. I know that there's a Mac -> GP32 link programme avaliable, but it doesn't yet support Panther (which I run), so can I just use a card reader to transfer files to and from it? And how good is the MP3 play back? And (last question) are any of the emulators working fully yet?
Mayhem #2 Posted February 29, 2004 Yes, but I think you need the link program to install the Freelauncher file.
Atarinvader #3 Posted February 29, 2004 Yes, but I think you need the link program to install the Freelauncher file. So I could use a PC to do this (and it does what?), and then just use my Mac from then on in with a card reader? It think there's a UK company that has the system all set up for you. Maybe I should contact them... BTW Mayhem I just been reading your site and relised you used to write for Keiths' Retro Gamer fanzine. Are you on CCNUK? Flack #4 Posted March 1, 2004 You don't need any of that stuff to play MP3's. An MP3 player is built into the GP32. Simply copy over the MP3's with a card reader like you mentioned and viola. The built in player is simplistic but it works, don't expect a lot of features. There's no way to "lock" the keys, so if you have the GP32 in your pocket you may hit a key and stop playback. Many of the emulators are up to snuff now. As I stated in the other thread, Atari 2600, 5200, Atari ST, C64, NES, SNES, Genesis, and other emulators all work great! Atarinvader #5 Posted March 1, 2004 But will I need a link up to transfer games over? I think my girlfriend might be giving me here old iPod anyways, but I'd still like one.
Mayhem #6 Posted March 1, 2004 BTW Mayhem I just been reading your site and relised you used to write for Keiths' Retro Gamer fanzine. Are you on CCNUK? No, but perhaps I should. Only so much time in the day sadly to devote to fun matters such as collecting. Speaking of which, I haven't spoken to Keith in ages, so perhaps I'll give him a call... Atarinvader #7 Posted March 1, 2004 Tell you what mate, don't know what part of the 'Londish' area you are, but if you're my side we may get a few of us to go to the Meusem Of Computings' Videogames exhibition in Swindon. Looks like it could be a good laugh, and on Saturdays you can play!
Mayhem #8 Posted March 1, 2004 Funny you mention that place, I was actually invited by them to give a speech for the opening of it but I had to decline as I wasn't able to make it there at the time they wanted me Swindon isn't that far from me I suppose, I'm very south London (just inside the M25) in location... Shannon #11 Posted March 4, 2004 I believe it is possible to install the freelauncher without a PC, you just need to create the proper directory structure in order for it to work.
