How much should I pay for Commodore monitors?

Recommended Posts

I stopped by Goodwill and they have three Commodore 1702 monitors. They are all in good shape and they are $9 each. I have a nice new TV hooked up to my systems, but I think these would be good extras and/or good to sell with any systems I plan to put on Ebay. Would you buy one, two, three -- how good are they for classic systems? I had one for my 2600 and it OK; however, I think the systems with a/v would be much better on these monitors?

The only problem with ebaying them is in the weight/shipping cost. They are quite common, I've passed on a few, I have 2 right now in my room, one I use and one as a backup, they are very cool to have as an extra in a gameroom. I keep my VCR hooked to one so I can hook up my 2600 to it, to lazy to get the AV mod, and I typically keep the XE connected to it as well. Also just for quick testing and stuff apart from pulling out the TV, my TV doesn't really pull out anyway to heavy. But they make for a useful item to have around if you have the space.

I would probably one or two at that price, but I wouldn't presonally buy off ebay, because shipping might run $25+ by itself, plus the final auction price, not as much of a deal.

You might get between $25-50 each plus shipping on ebay, I couldn't see it going much higher. I've seen them on ebay around $25 to $40 with bids sometimes, but it's not gonna net you alot of profit.

I'd pay twice as much as that for one that worked, so I hope you'll buy them ALL and sell me one for $20 shipped. ;)

I'll add my vote to buy 'em all.. if I found one that powered on for less than $15 I'd buy it without thinking about whether it worked.

That said, did you go back and get 'em? If you have my luck, you'd have gotten back to the store just in time to see some cart diver haul 'em out to his van. :(

I went and bought two of them. I tested them all and these two were in better shape and "brighter" when adjusted. I think the other one was fine, but I didn't want to risk it. Thanks for the advice. I may hook one up to the Adam and one will be a back-up. I agree with you in that they look cool and seem good for an extra room (someday - right now we live in an apartment). I also found 10 boxed Atari 8-bit games at the flea market (before going back to Goodwill) including Frogger II and Peanut Butter Panic, so it was a good morning.
