Gabriel
In no particular order: Dark Wizard (SegaCD) Romance of the Three Kingdoms II (NES, SNES, Genesis) Missile Command (Atari 2600) Ms. Pac Man (too many versions to list) Shining Force CD (SegaCD) Front Mission 3 (PS1) Defender (Atari 5200) Mortal Kombat II (SNES, Genesis, 32X) Tempest 2000 (Jaguar, PS1) Soul Calibur (DC) I don't include any games exclusively from the present generation of consoles or those that I've only played for the first time in the past couple of years. Plus, it's just based on the games I'm thinking of right at this moment. Looking back at my list, I'm a little confused why I didn't include Streets of Rage 2, Joust, or Ultima IV. There's also no mention of Phoenix or Robotron, which seems bewildering to the 2014 Gabriel. Tempest 2000 probably doesn't belong on my top 10 list, but it's a runner up. It's probably somewhere in the top 20. Soul Calibur 1 doesn't belong anymore. It definitely got replaced by Soul Calibur II. I kind of doubt now that I'd ever return to SC1. And yes, that DC got retired for good. On the other hand, I find I still largely agree with my list. That's pretty good, as I often look at my posts from back in the day and wonder who the hell that asshat back then was.
Ransom
In order by system, and sticking just to video games that I own (which mainly means no arcade machines): Kaboom! - Atari 2600 Dragonfire - Atari 2600 Star Raiders - Atari 5200 Defender - Atari 5200 AD&D - Intellivision Burgertime - Intellivision Lady Bug - Colecovision Galaga '90 - Turbographx-16 Populous: A New Beginning - PC Baldur's Gate - Dark Alliance II - PS2

Austin
Hm, tough choices! There are so many games out there I like, so this list isn't even close to being 100% accurate, these are just ones that sort of popped into my head first. Super Castlevania IV (SNES) DOOM (PC) Radiant Silvergun (Saturn/Arcade/360) Ninja Gaiden (NES) Quake (PC) Painkiller (PC) Raiden (Arcade) Demon's Crest (SNES) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis) Mega Man 3 (NES)
cimerians
Too many to pick from but here's mine (I also consider computer games in the 80's): - HERO (2600) - Montezuma's Revenge (C64\CV\5200) - Ultima IV (C64\Apple\PC) - Tecmo Bowl (NES) - Super Mario World (SNES) - Resident Evil 2 (PS1) - Ninja Gaiden Black (Xbox) - Dragon Age Origins (360\PS3\PC) - Uncharted 2 (PS3) - God of War 2 (PS2) 11 and 12th - X-Wing\Tie Fighter for PC should be on my list. I can alternate between that and Diablo 1 or 2 any day. As far as arcade's go I played the crap out of Tron, Elevator Action, Gyruss, Gauntlet, Ms. Pac-Man and Donkey Kong as a kid. Street Fighter II for SNES was fantastic...I also liked the SNES version of Prince of Persia. Too many games. Top 20 maybe........

BydoEmpire
I love that this thread is alive and well! I'm really surprised I didn't post back in 2004, though... oh well. Take the order with a grain of salt. The top 5 is more or less set for me, but I could shuffle around or have a totally different 10-6 tomorrow... 10. Donkey Kong (arcade, NES) 9. Frenzy (arcade) 8. Resident Evil 2 (PS1) 7. Demon Attack (2600) 6. Super Mario World (SNES) 5. D&D Cloudy Mountain (Inty) 4. Civilization (PC) 3. Ms. Pac Man (arcade, most ports) 2. Morrowind (PC) 1. Phantasy Star Online (Dreamcast) Shame to not have R-Type on there, given my user name, but so be it. Had to stick to 10. Lots of runner ups: Resident Evil 4, Final Fantasy 3, Pool of Radiance, Temple of Apshai, Dungeon Master, Phantasy Star, Empire, Street Fighter 2, Paper Mario, CastleVania, Metroid, SMB, Ultima Underworld, X-Com... DoctorTom
This is my best effort. Home consoles/computer only (if I add arcade or computer games, I cannot possibly narrow it down to ten). I'd prefer a list of Top 3 per console or something...Anyway, I simply could not have done without these: 2600 -- Adventure, Missile Command CV -- Frogger NES -- Super Mario Brothers 3, Donkey Kong (until something even closer to the arcade is available) PS1 -- King's Field 2, Tomb Raider, WipEout N64 -- Wave Race PS3 -- MLB the Show (2012 edition preferred) Plenty of great SNES games and other games, but not quite in the Top 10 for me. DaytonaUSA
Wow, this will be hard. I'm sure won't agree with my picks, either. In no order: Wave Race 64- N64 F-Zero X - N64 Jurassic Park: Lost World - Arcade Warframe - PS4 (I know it's new, but seriously, haven't had this much fun in ages) King of Fighters '99 (love the backgrounds!) Daytona USA - Arcade/Saturn Marvel VS Capcom 2 - Dreamcast Sega Rally - Arcade/Saturn Star Wars Trilogy - Arcade RoadBlasters - NES Edited January 10, 2014 by DaytonaUSA

Mendon
Anything in the SSI Gold Box series of D&D games Dungeon Master & Chaos Strikes Back Bard's Tale Wizardry Eye of the Beholder Bounty Bob Jumpman Shamus Epyx classics Star Warrior & Crush-Crumble-Chomp Alternate Reality: City & Dungeon Star Raiders I seem to see a pattern of C64-Atari800-Atari ST gaming here.... I did play a lot of console games, especially Intellivsion & Atari, but it was the launch of the affordable home computer and the longevity of computer games (vs. just getting a high score on console games) that grabbed me and hasn't let go. +DZ-Jay
Of all time, hmm... Do they have to be console games? If not, here we go: 10. PC - War Craft III (multiplayer mode) 9. C=64 - Fahrenheit 451 8. Arcade - Gyruss 7. Arcade - Joust 6. PC - The Space Quest Series 5. PC - Manic Mansion - Day Of The Tentacle 4. PC - Abe's Oddessey 3. PS2 - Shadow Of The Colossus 2. PS2 - Resident Evil 4 1. PC - Tie Fighter The order is a little fuzzy, but generally correct. And a very special mention goes to: - PC - Rogue Squadron - Game Cube - Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader - Arcade - Pac-Man - PC - X-Wing Fighter - Intellivision - B-17 Bomber - Intellivision - Utopia - C=64 - Racing Destruction Set - PS2 - Guitar Hero - PC - Anything from Sierra Online and LucasArts - PS2 - God Of War (almost forgot this one!) These are all games that have made a very lasting impression on me, and that I would happily play at the drop of a hat.

I couldn't really decide. Damn it seems I missed out on SuperStar Ice Hockey! I'll have to look for it. I used to play Hatrick, Rollerball and Harball on the C64. I'm going to have to give NGB a serious look now . . . A word of warning: Go for the original Xbox version called Ninja Gaiden Black. Also, if you ever give it a try immediately die 3 times in a row to unlock Ninja Dog (easy) mode. It preps you very well for normal mode. It's a cross between God of War (violence\killing) and maybe DMC. Difference is you have to block\dodge a lot and get familiar with the enemies patterns. Awesome combat engine after you get the hang of it playing on easy. Edited May 19, 2014 by cimerians

There is a "Superstar" series from Mindscape that includes Superstar Soccer and Omniplay Basketball. These games introduced me to the sports franchise mode, and I actually still wish some of their features were part of modern sports games. It might be hard to go back to them now if you'd never experienced them back then. I'd recommend emulation so you can avoid the loading and use save-states etc.
