I would give everything I own..........

Recommended Posts

Is there anyone out there that has absolutely everything there was ever made for the 2600?? Is this even possible? We could certainly dive into the realm of "No" if we add the homebrews in, But I am talking everything released by Atari and Licensed by them. Just so you know---I have a feeling I am not even close to this LOL.

I would think it's fairly impossible.

There was just so much. And I'm sure a lot has been lost. Plus, you talk about "licensed by Atari." What about everything that wasnt' licensed? IIRC, that's a pretty fair amount.

I know it's not the same, but you can get almost all of the ROMs around here, and CPUWIZ can make a repro for just about any game, if not all of them

If you're strictly talking licensed US releases, there are a few people who are 5 or less away.

It's impossible to ever own everything, since there are tons of unlicensed games, hacks, label variations both major and minor, box variations, instruction variations and previously unknown PAL titles. Not to mention prototypes.

If you're talking strictly commercially released games for the ntsc in America it's about 520 games. What makes this number extremly hard to obtain is the fact that after you hit about the half way point with 260, it becomes extremly expensive or difficult to pick up the rest. You will have to use ebay to get all of these games. This could run you hundreds of dollars just for a single game. Were probably talking about 50,000 dollars and a lot of time and effort to acomplish this task. This is probably the hardest game system to collect for after awhile. Nintendo, even though it has more comercially released games than atari is extremly easier to collect for because virtually every game released for nintendo was somewhat popular.

Owning everything takes away the fun in collecting. Immagine no more hunting down carts at stores or ebay, no more tension of a bidwar in the last few minutes of an auction. The chase is usually better than the catch, which is with all sorts of collections. I collect music by the artist Moby myself and I never play those rare white labels and test pressings I have, just his more common stuff. I think the same counts for games, unless the rare ones are really good.

I want to own everything! LOL Sometimes you do get lucky and score a rare game without knowing it until you get home. I recently purchased a huge lot of gaming systems and happened to get a bumper bash in the lot. I just had won a bumper bash in a lot on ebay so talk about luck! I have my 2nd bumper up on ebay now because I don't like to sit on doubles as they take up to much room after a while. I did keep the better of the two. The one I kept has no hole in the center. To give you an idea what I got in that huge lot:

An atari 2600 system with about 20 games or so in the box with manuals 4 nes systems with about 75 games that I do not collect

A commodore 64 with tons of software

and Atari 800 - 810 - and 1050 with games

and about 15 sega games

all this for $150.00!

I just sold one of the Atari 800 games for $52.00 and the bumper Bash is at $61.00 on ebay now---so I thinks I did ok in this score :-)

if your interested in the bumper bash just type it in to ebay search. it still has a couple hours left.

I plan on having evrything Atari sold if it takes me years and years, I will have it all!!! hehe

Yep, one can try, that is certainly true. :D

I think Marco has been trying for 10 years now. :ponder:

I kind of wish I had bought all the Hozer Vidio games when I had a chance;I spent about $800 just to Hozer Vidio,so you can see that even getting the homebrew games is expensive.I have gotten lucky and gotten some Hozer games on ebay, but there's just not very many left out there.

Oh, you were just talking about owning all the games. What about all the hardware and sticks, etc? How about those multiport things that were supposed to save your game port by plugging in all your carts at once and using a selector switch to play? It is indeed endless-- the more you collect; the more you discover that you do not have!! Good luck!

Wow, time sure flies when you're having fun :)

It's been 10 years since I discovered the internet as a new source for collecting Atari 2600 games. I've been looking for 2nd hand games on fleamarkets ever since I got my first Atari. Active collecting started around 1988. I currently own 2000+ Atari 2600 games, and I need two more official releases to complete my USA NTSC collection.

(and a handful of boxes, and special releases, and... and :D )

Cheers,

Marco

Only 2 more? Any chance one of that missing game is Air Raid? :D

As long as I'm here, I wonder if CPU could make an Air Raid repro with the T-handle cart in blue? Making Air Raid cart is fairly easy if you have experience and EPROM burner, making decent repro label is hard since there isn't any good Air Raid label scan.

Yes, I still need Air Raid. I have a weird PAL pirate / demo / proto of Air Raid, but I'm sure that doesn't count. I also need NTSC Motorodeo (hey, there'a one on eBay, for only $3,999, perhaps I'll go get that one ;)

Cheers,

Marco

looks like the price was lowered to $899. of course, it is much easier to find a shrinkwrapped motorodeo (which MIGHT be NTSC, as long as you never open it!) than it is to find a tested and confirmed NTSC motorodeo.

come to think of it, i've had a shrinkwrapped ikari warriors for ten years that i bought from another collector in the US. i just assumed it was PAL all this time. i wonder...

I used to live in OHIO and there was a place calles TOMORROW'S HEROES and there was at least 300 games, (probably more) for the the atari consoles and 8bit computers.

In fact I plan on going back to OHIO to visit my best friend for 12 days and I will find out if that place is still there and what the address and phone number is in case anyone on this site want to call about games or visit.

It is alot of fun to go into any thrift store and find atari games and carts.

I plan on doing this too.

Where's Tomorrow's Heroes in Ohio? Anywhere near Cleveland? ;) (I did a Google search and all that's listed is a Cleveland PO box). It sounds really, really familiar...

I've bought a fill-in game or two from Toys That Time Forgot in Canal Fulton, but they know of the games' rarities and such and price them accordingly, so don't expect a $0.99 copy of Quadrun. They had drawers and drawers of games and manuals when I was there last summer.
