Adrian M #1 Posted March 8, 2004 Is Vindicator's a TOUGH game or what? I finally finished it this afternoon (after MANY continues). Once you get used to the control scheme and upgrade your tank a bit, it gets easier, but the later levels are absolute madness. How does one take out one of the flying saucers? And, who has finished this on one credit? Is it even possible?
MegaManFan #2 Posted March 8, 2004 NovaXpress and I tried to work our way through this one during a night of gaming, got stuck and gave up. Yes it really is HARD, and I imagine one credit is next to impossible unless you've previously aced and mastered it. This one must have been one HELL of a quarter sucker in the arcade. Ironically I had the NES version before MAT but never really played it.
Lauren Tyler #3 Posted March 11, 2004 It's one of the few games which can easily be considered tougher-than-nails! Even with unlimited continues it's a hell of a game!

The arcade version was really cool because of the tank controller. They looked just like the graphics you see at the start of the game when it shows you the tutorial. It took some practice to get used to, but it had a nice clunky, heavy feel that added to the gameplay. I spend lots of quarters on this machine, but never got far. RJ #5 Posted March 14, 2004 Yeah, the control is screwed (thanks, Midway!) You'd think the dual sticks (on a PS2) would lend themselves to control perfection- NOT SO! & one of the options is to use the shoulder buttons to move? No thanks- that's what STICKS are for! They should've made the R1 (trigger finger) to shoot, too. I think the saucers can be taken out by those smart bomb things you can buy.

We were actually kicking some ass and made it pretty far into the game, even though we kept reloading our credits. In the arcade that little gaming session would have cost us 60 bucks. We kept screwing each other up by being on opposite sides of the screen. I think it might be easier with one player taking his time. I kept going for the cannon upgrades and that seemed to help. I've never seen anyone shoot those saucers.
RJ #7 Posted March 15, 2004 After posting I had to play to confirm what I said. I used the option to reconfigure the controls (why didnt I see it before ) so now my custom scheme is: L/R sticks: move L1: special weapon (smart bomb, etc) R1: shoot L2/R2: rotate turret D-pad/buttons: not used/unassigned Now I dont have to stop moving to shoot (w/ 'x' button.) This really helped my game- I got to at least the 5th station on a handful of continues. The 4th station's "shop" had an option to warp to Station 6 but I chose not to. Also, I found those saucers are rather easy to destroy. I came across some sleek silver tanks in a later level. They resemble Darth Maul's spaceship from Episode I, & fire twin shots!
