Lauren Tyler #1 Posted March 8, 2004 I just got a Sega 32X and a Sega CD from a trade meet yesterday, but I didn't get all of the cables for them. I need the one that goes from the 32X to the TV, as well as a mixing cable (and possibly the red/white jacks) for my Sega CD. Also I've heard that I should only use a Sega Genesis model 1 AC Adaptor on my Sega CD. Is that the case? Is there another adaptor I can buy at Radio Shack that will work (or for my 32X for that matter? )
Ze_ro #2 Posted March 8, 2004 I need the one that goes from the 32X to the TV The 32X has the same A/V output port as the Genesis 2... so if you already have a Genesis 2, then you should have something that will work. You DO have the Genesis-to-32X passthrough cable, right? It's the really short cable with two identical round, 9-pin male connectors on it. If you don't have this, then you won't be able to use your 32X. 'fraid I don't have any knowledge to provide about the SegaCD. --Zero
Lauren Tyler #3 Posted March 8, 2004 Unfortunately the Genesis 2 was acquired only yesterday, so I don't have the A/V wires. Would an S/Video cable for PS2/GameCube work since they seem to have similar extensions, or what can I do?
Lauren Tyler #4 Posted March 9, 2004 OK so I'm replying to myself. I tried setting up my Sega CD today and everything's plugged in as normal, but the Sega CD is not responding at all. I've tried everything but nothing's happening.
Ze_ro #5 Posted March 9, 2004 Unfortunately the Genesis 2 was acquired only yesterday, so I don't have the A/V wires. Would an S/Video cable for PS2/GameCube work? I'm fairly certain that the Genesis 2 and 32X use a unique cable for video output. Playstation and Gamecube video cables will NOT fit into it. You might be able to find one off of eBay. --Zero
Atariman #6 Posted March 9, 2004 which version of the segacd system do you have? (is the unit under the system or next to it)
Breakpack #7 Posted March 9, 2004 Just thought Id mention that later reissues of the Genesis 2 made by Majesco (around '97 ish, right before making the Genesis 3's) don't seem to work with the 32x/Sega CD add ons....well at least mine didnt'd.Had to take the stoopid thing back....arrghh..... Atari_Worshipper #8 Posted March 10, 2004 if you're using a Gen 1 Gen with a Gen 2 SegaCD (and I'd imagine vice versa) you'll need an additional cable. The Gen 1 Gen used a 5-pin DIN cable output for it's A/V (think old computer keyboards) whereas the Gen 2 Gen used a modified version of an S-Video cable. So you'll need the 5-pin DIN male to *S-video* female cable. As far as the headphone cable from the segacd to the Gen 1 Gen, you can use any stereo mini plug cable at radio shack or whatnot. The Gen 2 Gen doesn't require a mini plug cable. As far as the power suppies go, they look identical, except one uses 9Volts DC out and the other used 10Volts DC out. I've always used the 10 volt on the SegaCD and it's worked like a champ. Hell, I may have even accidentally used the 10 volt on the Gen 1 Gen without incident (as it was only recently that I discovered the difference. I went to buy a new powersupply for my Japanese Neo Geo AES, as the original one litterally melted in a stinky, smoky mess. and the 10 volt works on the Geo... never tried the 9, never plan to) The power adapters for the Gen 1 and Gen 2 are incompatable, not only cause the connector plugs are different sizes, but the polarity on the plug is reversed. But the one for the Gen 2 is the same as the one for the 32X. I don't know if this is helpful, or what could politely be called "trivia" and more honestly called "useless info" but I hope it helps... Ze_ro #9 Posted March 10, 2004 the Gen 2 Gen used a modified version of an S-Video cable. So you'll need the 5-pin DIN male to *S-video* female cable. The Genesis 2 video port is NOT s-video. It's a round port, but it's bigger, has pins in different places, and doesn't have a match for the post that sticks out of an s-video jack. Also, I may be wrong about this, but I don't think you need any video cables to hook the Genesis and SegaCD... all you need is the audio mixing cable (which, on the Genesis 1, wouldn't use the 5-pin DIN jack anyways). There is a "male 5-pin to female 9-pin cable", but that's only for hooking a Genesis 1 up to a 32X. --Zero

Sega added audio-in lines to the Genesis 2 expansion connector, so all sound is output through the Genesis multi-out.
