chairmonkey4406 #1 Posted March 8, 2004 If you were say, to just up and die all of a sudden, what would you tell your remaining family members to do with your collection? I myself would tell them to keep it all the exact same as it is now in my gameroom as a sort of shrine of rememberance of me. Of course the house would have to stay in the family for ever or at least along time. What would you do? oh yeah and in my will I would write that if anyone of them sells any part of my collection the entire family will be cursed! buahhahah! neotokeo2001 #2 Posted March 8, 2004 No problems there. My 13 year old son loves collecting games more then I do.
pmpddytim #3 Posted March 8, 2004 I have thought about this before but for some of my other collections. I have a quite extensive Stephen King first edition collection with some books worth some major $$$$. I decided that since nobody in my family would really admire them the way I do I would rather them give the books away to someone or someplace that would respect them and love them as much as I do. So I imagine I would do the same with the atari collection. Or maybe donate it to Atariage.com so they could sell the collection on bidiots/ebay and make some cash, thus promoting the hobby. Or maybe I would be burried with it. Tim
Adrian M #4 Posted March 8, 2004 The thought hasn't even crossed my mind yet. I don't expect to be dying anytime soon. But if/when the inevitable should occur, I suppose I would leave my collections to my children (if I have any by then) or my wife (again, provided that I'm married then). Let them enjoy or sell it as they see fit.
HawgWyld #5 Posted March 8, 2004 Can't say I've thought about that one. How depressing. I suppose, however, mine will go to my kids or my wife (provided my wife outlives me -- she loves the ol' 2600 and 7800 just slightly less than I do). Hey, that reminds me of an old joke: Q: Why do husbands die before their wives? A: Because they want to.
ATARIPITBULL #6 Posted March 9, 2004 I collect Atari games and extras because i love too, but if I were to die, then I would not care what my family did with my collection, I hope if my wife or kids sell the whole big lot, that they at least get a good price. Trade-N-Games #7 Posted March 9, 2004 I have told my wife that when that day comes she can sell my collection and it would be enough money to bury me and have a huge party in the space my collection takes up
GruBBworM #8 Posted March 9, 2004 LEAVE IT ALL TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Voch #9 Posted March 9, 2004 I would want to be buried with my collection if I could ensure that the grave site would be kept secret from YOU guys. Actually, I have no idea what would be done with my loot... Voch

homerwannabee #11 Posted March 9, 2004 My atari collection is probably worth $500. I don't know if it's worth the time and energy to make a will.
DeV0 #12 Posted March 9, 2004 Buy the time i cack i would assume they would be museum pieces, So i'd donate it all. My family wouldnt be interested.
ATARI TROLL #13 Posted March 9, 2004 Yes, I have a living will. In the event of my death, my wife and daughter are the proud owners of everything Atari I have collected to date and into the future. That way atleast they don't wind up going to the state. Life insurance, death gratuities, General Powers of Attorney, and a Living Will ensure the Atari collection will remain in the Troll family for years to come!-LOL and all my other possessions etc
gamerz #14 Posted March 9, 2004 I'm taking my Atari with me!
Cassidy Nolen #15 Posted March 9, 2004 Big parts of my collection/arcades would go to different people. The historic pieces (Computer Space and the early 70's/ one-of-a-kind pieces) are willed to the Computer History Museum outside of Sunnyvale. My 2600 stuff would be going to a fellow collector (you know who you are), and the arcades on location would be left to continue income for my wife. Nicole knows where everything goes, and there are plans in place in case this sort of thing happens. She would keep the basement the way it is for a while, but I want her to do whatever she wants with the rest. Grim but important to think about. Voch #16 Posted March 9, 2004 Maybe I oughta put you guys in my will or something. I'm moving in less than weeks to my bigger place. My friends and family who are helping me with the move refer to the game collection as "that Atari stuff." I'm moving the collection by myself two days before the "official move day" because I'm a perfectionist and don't want to see, say, my rarest cartridge dangled out his driver-side car window by my friend John the PlayStation junkie on the I-71 trip up north. I think once I get the new game room set up and the games are more convenient to play I'll get my friends to get in on some of the older games. During that I'll bring up how I want an all-silver-Imagic-cartridge-lined coffin. Voch
Happy_Dude #17 Posted March 9, 2004 If I croak it before 2023 it will probably end up back in the local thrift store. After that I'll write a will and instruct that all my many combat carts are smashed into 1 billion pices and their ashes scattered at sea Upon my demise I would like the games to be sold off so other people can get some enjoyment out of them (Unless my future wife or kids enjoy them too ) Atari forever (unless you've got an Eprom in there, then it should be "Atari for no less than 20 years" )
Spirantho #18 Posted March 9, 2004 I'm going to leave instructions to dispose of my Atari carts in the only fitting way.... I'll request they be shipped off to the Nevada desert, and buried in a concrete-sealed landfill.... Then when some ET hunting weirdo goes a-searching he'll instead come across a Quadrun and other carts. That'd be a story for the local press...
candiru #19 Posted March 9, 2004 Right now it's just my wife and me, and I don't know anyone else who would really appreciate the things I have. So I've told her she can sell it all off. Let's see, life insurance + cash from collection + empty space where my collection used to be. Maybe I should buy some flowers.

Ed Siegler #22 Posted March 12, 2004 The 2600 stuff has been provided for in my will. Should I expire before my brother, the collection goes to him, and vice versa should he expire first. Should we both simultaneuosly expire, they are to be perserved in a video game museum of some sort to be determined by our survivors. That could all change with the advent of our children.
sku_u #23 Posted March 12, 2004 As it stands right now, everything would go to my wife and she'd likely continue gaming. In the event we both pass on, the executor of our will has instructions to sell all our possessions that are of value and not family heirlooms and donate the proceeds to an inner-city youth organization. If/when we have children, this will shall change in all likelihood.
