how do you clean the odyssey 2 controllers?

hi all. I just recently got out my old odyssey system and the controllers aren't working like they used to. what is the best way to clean these or whatever to make them work again? the problem is they don't seem to always want to work when moved to certain directions. could something else be wrong?

They're held together with screws, so it's pretty much as easy as taking out the screws, opening it up, blowing the junk out of there, and putting it back together.

 

It's been a while since I opened mine, but I seem to remember that it was kind of tricky to get things back together, what with all the springs and such, so you might want to be careful to keep in mind where everything goes when you take it apart.
