video-only console game "attract modes" as party b

Recommended Posts

So for an upcoming party I put together a Frankenstereo system: my new iPod for the music, large TV as receiver, salvagd AIWA speakers and a biggish subwoofer. It sounds pretty decent. I figured I'd put something for the video, something random like they do at clubs. I could just toss a cartoon DVD in the PS2, but it got me thinking: what games would be best, from any console system, that have a very cool long attract mode?

Obviously something like that old video atari or whatever might be coolest, but without that, what games would work?

Although not exactly a game, you can make a PSX dislay random fractals to music. I remember someone mentioning this in an earlier thread here.

Find Zero Wing and show the infamous intro.. I think it was the intro..

Super Mario RPG has a nice intro..

Kirby's Dream Land 3 for a nice cartoony effect.

Smash Bros. Melee has a beautifully rendered video.

I'd rather use a projector and winamp's AVS then that.

Well, the iPod is doing all the music, the video is there theoretically just to make sure the tv doesn't auto-poweroff , but finding some cool video to play might add to the effect of it all.

Music mixer for the xbox is pretty nice. Lets you move the .mp3 to its hardrive too. Plays differant patterns etc... to the music.

But...I have to justify this iPod SOMEHOW ;-)

It's not a bad idea, actually, though I noticed ripping CDs was SLOW when I decided GTA3 might be nice with some chemical bros...

Yeah, I hear you. It kinda avoids the ipod. As for ripping CD's to the HD, well you its kinda slow, but the results can't be beat. Custom in game music straight from the conosle rather than my stereo. What about a PC to TV connection? You could run winamp through the TV maybe? I myself would just have some extreme skiing or mountain bike DVD playing with the audio off and the ipod running. But thats my personal taste.

Samash Bros has the greatest intro ever, it's like the ode to their best characters

It was more of an opinion than a suggestion ;)

And I'd rather use iTunes' Visualizer than either of those two. Too bad the iPod doesn't have built-in video out that could display a visualizer on a TV.

Anyway, the iPod idea's great. I like the idea of a game being played in the back. How will the room be set up? If it was on a big screen, it'd be better. But on just a TV in a living room, I don't see the point.
