Testing A Jaguar

Recommended Posts

I picked up a Jaguar at a garage sale for 2 bucks. It came with 1 controller, a power supply TV "switch box". It didn't, however, come with a game so I have no way to test it. I tried hooking it up to the television and plugging it in to see if it would power up and it didn't. So my question is, does it need to have a cartridge in order for the power light to come on or is the unit DOA? I tested the power supply and it is supplying power to the unit.

Any thoughts?

As far as I can remember, the Jaguar requires a game and/or cd unit inserted in the cartidge slot in order to power up. That also goes for the LED at the front of the unit; it won't light up without a cart/cd unit installed.

If it were me, I would go to eBay and find a cheap cartridge(i/e: $5 or less) and see if it works in the unit.

Btw, nice steal if it works, dude!

Thanks for the replies. Now I've got to run out and find a cartridge so I can test this thing. Then I'll have to get the CD-Unit. And another controller. And the AV box to replace the RF box.

I'm starting to think that maybe it wasn't such a good deal. LOL.

Thanks again.

Well, the CD unit is cool, but it's only got a few games(about 12 or so), so I wouldn't make it a priority just yet(unless you spot one for under $70, in which case, buy it quick:) ) The A/V box isn't really necessary unless you like higher quality sound from Tempest(who doesn't?:) ), and are a stickler for high-quality video. *shrugs*

Besides, it's Atari! Isn't it worth it? :)
