Play the Adventure II Philly Classic 5 demo

Recommended Posts

I checked it out at the show, and thought it was great. It is deffinitely a game you can't get to know while standing there for 2 minutes.

It is a game I will have to get on cartrige, but I will give it a good try with the rom image.

Thanks for a great game. 8)

This is truly incredible work Cafeman!

I am very much looking forward to the release of this gem! I did notice a few things that I am sure you are aware of.

I am curious as to what happens here? I killed the red dragon with the sword early in the game and I turn into a Hand icon with the sword. All I noticed is that I think I was able to move faster?

This also happened with I happen to hit the troll/goblin looking dude with the sword. However, he still got away with the sword so I was just a roaming hand for a bit.

Second, I have had two instances of playing this demo now, where the troll/goblin dude would take something from me and in the process would bump me in between graphic items. At this point I am effectivly stuck and must restart the game.

And finally, I know you are using the crab grass looking stuff as boundary markers in some maps...but it would be a much smoother game if the crab grass didn't get in your way and you could just roam over it. This way you could use shrubs of some sort to still block the paths where needed, but crabby looking grass wouldn't be problem.

All in this is excellent work and I simply can't wait to get news that it is ready to be ordered. I will part with some of my Genesis rares to get this one if I have too!

What sound you have so far is excellent! Good take on the original while being updated to make use of the 5200 pokey properly!

:D

I agree with much of what Crossbow said. Especially about the grass. But, even with it, it's a great game so far! One of the best "homebrews" I've played.

Just wish I didn't get lost in the mazes so easily!

Just wish I didn't get lost in the mazes so easily!

Embarassingly, I was trying to show some guys the Ice and Dark Kingdoms and I couldn't find the screen with the green key (in the Kingdom 2 hedge mazes) which the Troll stole and hid. I finally found it, made a mental note ... "make hedge maze smaller"... ;) But seriously, didn't everyone get lost in Adventure too? It took time to learn the maze, especially the catacombs.

The Ice Castle maze is really difficult to get through in the demo game #2, too. I think if you hit #5 to Revive, it will get you out to the beginning of the castle, if you get hopelessly lost.

During one of the PC5 panel discussions, Howard Scott Warshaw talked about Raiders and ET, and he said something that I agree with but I've never really heard it put into words before: that the creator of an action game gets to play his game like the target audience, he really shouldn't know what happens next. But the creator of an adventure game knows all the puzzles & secrets , thus he never gets to really play his own game.

Thus, Keep the comments coming, I need the feedback guys!

OMG!!! This game is steadily evolving into such an amazing game!!! The new mazes look great, the Dragons are so cool, the Troll that replaces the Bat is pretty neat, the whole game is truly amazing, I can't wait for the final product!!!

next year, Cafeman, I want YOU up there on that podium talking about coding games. Your sheer love and enthusiasm for the 5200 would be a real boost to those of us who know little of the system, but have our interest piqued by things like your fabulous Adventure II HB.

Oh and I got lost in the mazes too, but was LOVING every minute of it, because I DIDN'T know where to go! Long time since I could say that about a game of Adventure! :) :) :) :)

I want to know why Cafeman wasn't up on the podium this year. I mean, he did finish Koffi's Kopter last year.

He could have talked about Adventure II and shared his enthusiasm for the 5200 with more than just the few of us who got to hang out with him. The crowd doesn't know what they missed.

Tried the demo on an emulator...this is just as good as I hoped for! I can't wait to try it on a real 5200.

I think the troll is GREAT, however I have a feeling that he's going to get even more vicious and come directly at you, like the bat in the original Adventure. Then I probably won't think the troll's so great. Still, I really like how this character looks and moves.

And the landscape is very nice. I'm VERY impressed with this demo overall...it looks too detailed to be a 5200 game, which I mean as a compliment!

I had a playable demo up right after the Philly Classic. But that version is old now and I took it down. Maybe someone else can email you the adv2.bin file.
