StanJr #1 Posted March 24, 2004 Picked up Kool-Aid Man at Philly5 and finally got around to playing it today, and believe it or not, it doesn't suck. The opening animation is a bit, ridiculous, but its an opening screen on the VCS, I was just happy to see it. The game does feature some nice colors. The game play is fast and addictive, and I always get a kick out of turning into Kool-Aid Man! Weeeeee! I did pretty well my first time around and played LONG into the game. A fun little game that is pretty neat based on a BIZARRE franchise! All in all a winner. One question, what is up with the letters that turn you into Kool-Aid Man? Looked like an "S," a "W" and a "K" Programmer initials?
Xot #2 Posted March 24, 2004 One question, what is up with the letters that turn you into Kool-Aid Man? Looked like an "S," a "W" and a "K" Programmer initials? Sugar, Water and Kool-Aid: The ingredients to make Kool-Aid. Yes, I had this game when I was a kid and yes, I sent in Kool-Aid points to ge it.
pmpddytim #3 Posted March 24, 2004 I like the game as well. That said, (Warning Shamless Plug) I have a spare copy if anyone wants to trade for some activision games Tim
sku_u #4 Posted March 24, 2004 This game is a lot of fun and surprisingly addictive. It gets really hard to keep your water supply above the empty lne in the later stages.
Adrian M #5 Posted March 24, 2004 The game can get maddeningly difficult as you progress, but it is a fun diversion. On a side note, did anyone other than me drink gallons of Kool-Aid back in the 1980's in order to score enough Kool Aid points for a free copy of the game? rockman_x_2002 #6 Posted March 24, 2004 I'm sure my brother and I put away a few gallons of the stuff. Sadly we never got the chance to send off for the game.
MegaManFan #7 Posted March 24, 2004 I drank it until I was blue in the gills, but there was no point getting the game since I didn't have an Atari back then. However that doesn't prevent me from enjoying the game today.
adams_ale #8 Posted March 24, 2004 Very good game, nice score Stan. I give the game a B+. What other atari game has an opening animated scene? Sure, Kool Aid Man's opener is cheesy, but it's kind of impressive for the 2600!
Stingray #9 Posted March 24, 2004 On a side note, did anyone other than me drink gallons of Kool-Aid back in the 1980's in order to score enough Kool Aid points for a free copy of the game? You know I did! I do remember that game being pretty fun, but I have no idea what happened to it. Odd since I still have most of the other games I had as a kid. -S
pmpddytim #10 Posted March 24, 2004 On a side note, did anyone other than me drink gallons of Kool-Aid back in the 1980's in order to score enough Kool Aid points for a free copy of the game? I cheated! My grandfather drove a truck for a company that shipped paper products and they had several rolls of Kool-Aid packages (not filled with kool-aid just falt packs) that had been slightly damaged (literally thousands of packs!). So...He "liberated" one of these and kept it in his garage, when we wanted somthing from kool-aid we just clipped off what we needed. We got all kinds of stuff..Gameboy games....Skate boards....tape players... You name it! Ahhh..The good ol' days. Tim
Stingray #11 Posted March 24, 2004 Wow, an inside connection for Kool-Aid points! What I would have done for that! -S
hepcat #12 Posted March 24, 2004 I agree, Kool-Aid Man is a pretty good game. --Jason
Atarian7 #13 Posted March 24, 2004 How many points is "LONG" into the game?
StanJr #14 Posted March 24, 2004 30-40K area. Things were fast and furious. I'll be playing more tonight. I'll post if I get higher scores.
SS #15 Posted March 25, 2004 On a side note, did anyone other than me drink gallons of Kool-Aid back in the 1980's in order to score enough Kool-Aid points for a free copy of the game? I drank so much of the stuff during the summer of '83 in my quest to get the game that, to this day, I can hardly even stomach the SMELL of Kool-Aid any more! I love the game, though! It definitely hits my top 20 VCS list, if not even my top 10! BTW, in my "dump everything old" phase of the late 80's / early 90s, my Kool-Aide Man box and manual ended up in the trash with so many other gems of my childhood. Luckily, I was finally able to score a new manual for it in Philly this past weekend! Oh Yeah!
Adrian M #16 Posted March 25, 2004 On a side note, did anyone other than me drink gallons of Kool-Aid back in the 1980's in order to score enough Kool-Aid points for a free copy of the game? I drank so much of the stuff during the summer of '83 in my quest to get the game that, to this day, I can hardly even stomach the SMELL of Kool-Aid any more! LOL! I exhibit the same symptom...more so when I detect the smell of that infernal "Fruit Punch" Kool Aid variety. For some strange reason, my mom bought the Fruit Punch flavor over the tastier grape and lemonade during that long summer.
gulag picture radio #17 Posted March 25, 2004 Never drank Kool-Aid as a kid (I had elderly parents who became health nuts in the 80's)... despite this I love Kool-Aid man. I never played it til someone brought it to one of my big Atari parties a few years back. Then I was lucky enough to find two copies in the wild not too long after. The game is even better if you yell "Oh Yeah!" during the opening animation. I got to a point that I'd played the game so long, I was just muttering "Oh yeah" in this totally blase and dazed fashion... needles to say my friends thought it was pretty weird. This is one of my girlfriend's fave Atari games too - a game we discovered at almost 30 years of age!
