Star Wars Electronic Cartridges What the Heck Are They????

Recommended Posts

Anyone know what theses things go to? I got them with some other game stuff the other day. They are about 1" x 2", have pictures/info about various SW characters, and have a small circuit board in them.

One other thing. They have Hasbro LFL 1999 on them.

If I'm not mistaken those are the ones you put those special star wars figures on and it says phrases from the movie. But I may be mistaken. :P

NE1 is right. They are these annoying Commchip things that came with the EPISODE I characters (they didn't release these with any Episode II toys.)

You need a special Commchip reader to play them. And the voice is awful...

Yeah I have a bunch of those. They are called COMMtech chips and you ahve to buy what looks like a huge jedi communicator thing and scan them. Some are alright vocies some are terrible. I have about 50 on a chain.

The biggest crap gimmick eva is what they are.

Seems to me they were charging like 5.99 per figure when those came out. :x

If you have a comtec reader, you put one of those cards on it, and it will say some stuff from the movie. I got quiet a few laying around here, and the reader, but as the reader requires a 9 volt battery instead of a standard one, I've never even seen if it works.

[edit] Oh yeah, forgot to mention, the one that says "star Wars" on it, is the one that was packed in with the comtec reader thingy [/edit]

I've got a few of those too, but never was curious enough about how well they worked to buy a reader. Looks like that was a good choice.

There were some neat things they would do, like if you scanned certain characters in a certain order they would say whole patches of dialogue from the films. There were even some released with classic trilogy characters. French Canada even got some that spoke French.

The Comm-Tech aspect may not have been the greatest in the world, but I appreciated them for a much more practical reason: they also doubled as stands.

I got my reader for something like $2 when they were blowing them out. Worth owning as an oddity.

I got a reader the other day along with 15 or so more of the chips. Paid about $4.00 for it. Now I have about 50 of the chips. My kids are having a blast with them.
