2600 Junior

I often heard that 2600 Junior was published

in 1986 by the Tramiel Atari Corp.

 

But I remember seeing the Junior 2600 in 1984

in several warehouses in Germany.

I also owned an 2600 Junior presentation

catalog from Atari Inc with the Warner-logo.

In Germany the first Junior 2600 systems came

in big box, nearly as big as the all-black

4switch boxes.

Once again, if my memory serves me, I think it was produced at the same time as the 7800, but got sheleve by everyone's favorite incompetent family until they saw $$$ potential in the home gaming market.

 

Tramiel should be in the dictionary and mean "Total incompetence". It would have a similar meaning to D'Oh!

i have a 2600 jr here in canada that was one with the small rainbow strip on it and the main board has the date of 1983, and that is on the main board it self not the chips so i find it hard to think that the board was made a year before the realse and i ended up getting it so i would have to say that i think the jr was out before 1983.

 

also note that the main board has ATARI C021503 REV C on it so this in not the first design of the main board for the jr.

I'm from Germany too, and I got my 2600 jr. for Christmas of 1984. It came with two proline joysticks and Centipede as the pack-in game. It's manual has a copyright date of 1983. A friend of mine who got his VCS a couple of month before me still got a woodgrain model with Pac Man, though.
