+Stephen
Of all the Atari demos I have seen, this one is probably my favorite. It's incredibly fast, has killer music, great polygon rotation, and the best plasma I have seen on Atari. And it is only 16KB. Does anybody have some information on it such as how the plasma was created? It looks to have well over 16 colors per raster line and in a high resolution. Heaven/TQA
the plasma is kind of "simple plasma" which means that it utilities the mode9/11 combined with DLIs... so really nothing special as far as i know... it's interesting that fox' drunken chessboard is so well known... he is definitly one of the best atari coders i know (together with eru) (and that's why he is in taquart... )
+Stephen
Thanks. I just got my 1st Atari 7800 last weekend at Philly Classic ($5 and it works) so I'm watching your progress on the 7800 stuff. Wish I could code the little 8-bits like you guys! It's not mixing modes as far as i can see - at least, my own version doesn't use a mixed mode. =-)
Heaven/TQA
tmr, yup you are right...i wrote mode9/11 just because i was not sure if he used mode9 or mode11... but i guess mode9+DLIs for the rainbow colours... and the squares on top should be PMs... Sikor
Hi there!!! Fox used plasma model from other 8-bit Atari demo called "Bitter Reality", created by Slight (see part called "Rzog Plasma"). But Fox's procedure (plasma with polygon etc...) is really world championship!!!

In fact there is one effect with gr.9/11 interleaving in Drunk Chessboard
Heaven/TQA
well... i'll have to reload the demo tomorrow and have a look...
ballyalley
Well, after the talk, I had to download this demo and try it out on a real Atari. Rather excellent. I watched it with my son (10), and his comment sums it up nicely, "It looks like an Amiga Demo." That's a complement! After watching that Demo, I watched several others (about twenty). I ran into PAL problems with some of them, but mostly the only problems was that I couldn't understand the scrolling messages because they were not in English-- but you don't need to understand the language to check out the great effects. Heaven/TQA
adam what is imho more a compliment is that your son, 10 years old, knows amiga!!! that's cool... (my A1200 is still not reconnected since for 8 years...)
ballyalley
Yea, my son knows Amiga. He has an Amiga 3000 in his room with tons of games on the HD. Every once in a while he'll play that thing all day. His favorite game (and one of my too) is Scorthed Tanks. Four people playing that game is a "blast!" I need to try out Pocket Tanks for the PC.
