Saturn Games?

Recommended Posts

I just got a Sega Saturn (thanks vintagegamer89) and I got Thunder Strike 2 and Skeleton Warrior with it. I was wondering what games I need to get to fully enjoy this great system. I know I need like nights into dreams and Panzer Dragon but what else? I really like RPG's and the like.....thanks for any advice.

Sega Rally.

Spend the time to learn and master the art of effective powersliding. Once you learn the trick, this is one of the most addictive and well-made rally racing games you'll ever play. Trust me on this, it's that good.

I just bought Nights Into Dreams Factory Sealed with the 3D Controller for 10 bucks on ebay. This looks to be a fun system!

Excellent buy. That's about what I paid for it, and it's probably the best $10 you'll ever spend.

I would recommend Guardian Heroes, but it goes for $50 - $60 on ebay. I owned it back in the day, and would love to get it again, but I don't know if I can justify spending that amount just now. Oh, and you might want to try Dark Savior for an RPG-type game.

Shining Force III has an excellent story and awesome graphics IMHO but you'll have to shell out some $$ for it as it's really hard to get a hold of. Magic Night Rayearth is OK if you're into playing with a girl as your character. Oh and Dragon Force is also really great! Here are some links to screenshots of these games:

Really? People (or maybe it's the same person?) often sell Disc 1 by itself on eBay. It goes for $29.99, usually. If I had the other three discs, I'd fork out another $30 to play it.

Yeah what a find that was! I got lucky at a flea market, some guy had all these saturn games laying on a table but they were all in music cd cases. So I dug through the pile and found those 3 discs but not the first one! I asked him how much and he says $5.00 a disc! So I figured why not. I also came across Dragon Force in the pile as well! :D I must have gone through that pile like 3 times looking for the first disc! lol

Yeah, Disc 1 was given away free on Saturn magazines (both in PAL and NTSC locales) - damn generous, and it does mean that you can get it pretty cheap.

I paid $15 for Fighting Vipers after I relocated my Saturn, but then the CD drive died...

VIKING FUNERAL, BUT WITHOUT THE HONOR AND DIGNITY. That which fails me shall meet a similar fate!

Albert Odyssey is good IMO. Also, if you like fighters at all you may want to get the imports X-men vs. Streetfighter and Marvel vs. Streetfighter.

Yes. Albert Odyssey is a beautiful game.

...

Too bad the encounter rate is so high. And that's after WD halved it, I don't know how ANYONE played hte japanese version...

The Saturn is my favorite "neo-modern" system. I guess I enjoy it so much because it was the last great 2-D system. Sure it can do 3-D (and many game are in 3-D), but it's at its best in 2-D. Personally I'd stay away from any 3-D game because they're mostly jaggy and choppy, but almost all the 2-D games are excellent.

The best games for the system are generally the last releases. Unfortunately these also happen to be the most expensive. I'd recommend: NiGHTS, House of the Dead, Burning Rangers, Shining Force III, Astal, Guardian Heroes, and G-Darius. If you're into imports (and the Saturn is super easy to play imports on), then there are literally hundreds of great gameas out there. Personally I go for those Japanese shooters like Super Donpachi and the infamous Radient Silvergun (not worth the $$$ though).

My favorite game on the system is NiGHTS. Its just so amazing...
