bergbros2 #1 Posted March 29, 2004 Game Informer has their April Fool's Edition or Game Infarcer which makes a jab at fans of the Dreamcast. It is through a fictitious reviewer called "Killian, the Jaded Hardcore Gamer." I'm sorry I can't print the article out because it is in print and not on the net. Killian's bio is on pg.52 of the mag in which she states "Not since the release of Typing of the Dead has there been a truly revolutionary title." Later she states "Why do companies keep bringing back games like Prince of Persia and Spy Hunter when there is a gold-mine of future one-million sellers like Burning Rangers, Nights and Chu Chu Rocket sitting right before their eyes?... Oh, I know I've said this a thousand times before, but if you don't have a Dreamcast yet, buy one immediately. While at the store,, you might as well as sell your Xbox, Gamecubeand Playstation 2 as well since you'll never play them again." There is a fictitious review of Killian's on page 55 for a game called "Stephen Hawking's Underground" In which she states that the graphichs are good, just not "Dreamcast good". The game "found myself longing for some of the classic racers of yesterday. This title can't hold a candle to racers like Daytona USA, F355 Challenge, Flag to Flag and Metropolis Street Racer. Never heard of those games? THat's because they're all on the Dreamcast, the best system that none of you chumps bought." Where it says developer, the review says "Well, It ain't Sega, that's for sure." I thought it was funny, but you can see it was a jab at retrogamers, Fanboys, especially Sega fanboys and I suspect they were even refering to web sites and forums like this one. They actually have a real review of a Dreamcast game in their classic games section(!!) albeit it is a for the horrible game Heavy Metal: Geomatrix. I do not know why they would even take the time or space to print a review for this game except maybe to extend the point. What do you you guys think? Are they making jest of the retrogaming community?

chrisbid #4 Posted March 29, 2004 i guess since Gamestop dropped their NES and Genesis games, i have no reason to read the mag... and their "classic" section reviews playstation games for cripes sake
Raijin Z #5 Posted March 29, 2004 Playstation is 10 years old, dude. In computer terms, that's fucking prehistoric.
Brian R. #6 Posted March 29, 2004 The Dreamcast hardly qualifies as "retrogaming." I could say more, but it's too friggin' late, and it would be pointless. I'll just keep playing my Dreamcast. If that makes me a "fanboy," then so be it. I don't give a rat's ass what anyone else thinks.
chrisbid #7 Posted March 29, 2004 Playstation is 10 years old, dude. In computer terms, that's fucking prehistoric. perhaps, but if the games are still available new in places like walmart and can play on current hardware, then its current and not classic
MegaManFan #8 Posted March 29, 2004 I bought 7 DC games at PhillyClassic. I guess you could say that's retro.
Jess Ragan #9 Posted March 30, 2004 Any article that makes fun of the Dreamcast is OK in my book. Of course, you realize you're in the minority about this. The kind of minority that's so small that it's dwarfed by the population of Buddhist Eskimo lesbians. JR

The kind of minority that's so small that it's dwarfed by the population of Buddhist Eskimo lesbians. JR Not really. Do realize that the Dreamcast died an early death partly due to the fact that it had a relatively low installed base (Sega's massive debts notwithstanding). It wouldn't be too far fetched for me to say the number of true Dreamcast fanatics is relatively low, compared to oh, say XBOX and PS2 fans.
JagMX #11 Posted March 30, 2004 when the Dreamcast's hardware is better or mathes the ps2 there is no fukin way its retro, or old or anything - that was stupid of game informer - you cant "jab" bullshit at Dreamcast fans - im a DC fan cuz its a great system - sorry some games werent "revolutionary" the playstations line of over 500 garbage games proved to be revolutionary the DC came out shortly before the ps2 - anyone saying the DC is retro means that they have no clue how to look at the gaming industry and should just shut the fuck up - end of story, do not pass go, do not collect 200$
Ze_ro #12 Posted March 30, 2004 Retro- Retro- L. retro, adv., backward, back. Cf. Re-. A prefix or combining form signifying backward, back; as, retroact, to act backward; retrospect, a looking back. I guess by that definition, anything pertaining to anything that happened in the past (regardless of how far in the past) is "retro"... but for crying out loud, the Dreamcast still had commercial releases coming out in stores 2 years ago. Calling the Dreamcast retro is like calling Oasis "classical music", and really demeans the term when there are systems that have been commercially dead for over 20 years. If the Dreamcast is retro... then what the hell is the Odyssey? --Zero
