3rd Party RGB Monitor

Recommended Posts

Some one told me that the ST can't use 3rd Party RGB Monitors like a Commodore 2002 RGB Monitor, Come to think about I've never seen anyone use 3rd Party RGB Monitors with the ST. :?

I bought a low/medium resolution monitor from a local ST owner who claimed that he'd bought it at Radio Shack. I don't recall Radio Shack ever selling ST-compatible monitors, but who knows? The monitor cable on the thing looks like a homemade kludge.

It depends on how touchy the RGB monitor is. The ST outputs seperate Hor/Ver sync while many RGB monitors only have a composite sync input. However, a lot of RGB monitors will also work just fine with just one of the sync lines connected to the composite sync input. I forget which one you are supposed to use though.

If your RGB monitor doesn't like the single sync line you can also AND the two lines together.

If the monitor has a Scart Socket on it theres a good chance you will get it to work. I'm sure many Atari users use the classic Phillips CM8833 colour monitor.

A colour Portable TV should work just as well, I'm not to sure about Mono monitors though as I have never used one.

yeah i use a Philips CM8833 and an Amiga monitor wich is basicly the same as the Philips Cm8833. Virtually every monitor/tv with scart and have rgb connected work fine, but from what i start to understand is that RGB isn't much of a standard in the US??
