Jag CD add on: VLM and BLUE Lightning

Recommended Posts

Hi,

quick questions for the folks:

is the VLM a "built in" thing for the CD add on, or is it actually software? :?:

And: what is the blue lightning CD about?

VLM is really neat, it automatically starts when a music CD is put in. you use your controller to set its features and play music tracks and many of the VLM effects can even be manipulated with the controller.

the only other game console that has anything like this is the late NUON DVD players.

Well the 3DO has some built in visualisation for audio CD's, Goldstar ones do anyway, but its pretty crappy in comparison to the Jag or Nuon VLM's.

All the 3DO players released in the U.S (Pansonic FZ-1&10 and the Goldstar) had a light show for music, as did all but the earlier Playstations (PSX/1), but none compared to the Jag's VLM. Until NuoN (I assume, i haven't seen it). But I also know the XBOX has a light show too that's pretty good, although limited on patterns. The Jag VLM and Nuon VLM2 still have the largest variety and in my opinion (from the Jag version) the VLM's are still the best. I play my music through my Jagcdand VLM 90% of the time. It's awsome. 8)

It depends which Nuon model. Both Samsung's models had pretty good VLM2 selections, over 100 each. But only Samsung's N501 model has user interactive effects with the analog stick on a game controller. The Toshiba SD-2300 only has 8 effects, but it's higher resolution than the N501, and it's interactive with an analog controller.

I have the Toshiba SD2300, when I got it I didn't know that it was such a stripped version of the VLM2 - what an upset! but it does play DVDs perfectly and the zoom and slo-mo features were cool (few players at that time offered that). I just preferred that Toshiba's cool black case over the ugly silver Samsung models. I also discovered that the Toshiba doesn't play any music on CD-Rs (mixed or exact copies) but the Samsung ones do. :x

oh well! it's still worth it to play my T3K!
