Sylentwulf #2 Posted April 3, 2004 My only fear is having to actually LISTEN to the npc's babble for 5-10 minutes at a time....
Mendon #3 Posted April 3, 2004 I don't know.... I'll take a wait and see attitude about it. I played EQ for about 14mos and gave it up some time ago. One of the main reasons for quiting was because of the constant lag that players encountered. Each expansion seemed to add & worsen it, even to the point where with models and clip turned off, moving in the Bazaar or PoK was an effort and a chore. I'll never forget going into the Bazaar and seeing 2/3's of the people there facing the walls as it was the only way to cut down on lag and read messages/browse sales. Some people were fine with the game and didn't encounter all of the problems some of us did. Just for me, the lag became a big issue that SOE couldn't seem to fix. Since I don't play anymore, maybe I should consider selling my EQ disks, books, and account. They sometimes sell for some pretty good $$$ on eBay, especially if you have some upper lvl char's. But it will be interesting... with voices and all the other features they are talking about having with EQ2, I'll be curious to see what kind of lag you'll encounter and what type of machine you will need to have to play the game Mendon
Atari Master #4 Posted April 3, 2004 They just added a new graphics eingen to EQ so it lags less. Still buggy, but they're working on it.
Hydian #5 Posted April 4, 2004 The bazaar and PoK will always be laggy. Nothing you can do about it really until we all have unlimited bandwidth. Simply too many people to keep track of. Having played on and off since release, I have to say that EQ today is a huge improvement over EQ in 1999.
Gregory DG #6 Posted April 4, 2004 I never paid much attention to the NPCs. I quit playing because of the stupid way they handled death... I hated having to retrieve my corpse. I hope they don't do that with EQ2...
Atari Master #7 Posted April 4, 2004 In EQII I hear you don't loose exp when you die. But you still have to go get it. You know you could just get a Necro to summon your corpse.
Gregory DG #8 Posted April 4, 2004 In EQII I hear you don't loose exp when you die. But you still have to go get it. You know you could just get a Necro to summon your corpse. I knew that, I just didn't like doing it. I didn't mind losing exp as much as corpse runs. What a waste of time. Guess I won't be getting EQ2 then... +Sauron #9 Posted April 4, 2004 I don't see what the big deal is with having voices for NPCs. I personally could care less, and it's not like this is something entirely new to the world of gaming. Voice acting will do nothing to take away from the boring, repetitive nature of the typical level treadmill. I think Sony is stretching to find something to brag about regarding EQ2, as the competition is heating up on them.
Mendon #10 Posted April 4, 2004 Recently found this site: IGE. Take a look at the services they offer then take a look at the prices they sell things for, i.e. platinum, items, accounts, etc.... whew. There is money to be made in EQ if people are buying Mendon

I think Sony is stretching to find something to brag about regarding EQ2, as the competition is heating up on them. Yeah, but I think EQII is the first MMORPG to have voice NPCs. I don't know what the big deal about getting a corpse is. EQ now adays it's not hard to get your corpse. Normally your in a group, so theres not much of a problem getting it. Especially with Bards... : / As for IGE... I would like to know how much I could sell my account for. I have a 65 Magician with 23 AA and a level 50 Paladin with like 100k + in gear. I don't think I could just sell em off like that. I still like em.
Sylentwulf #12 Posted April 4, 2004 I never paid much attention to the NPCs. I quit playing because of the stupid way they handled death... I hated having to retrieve my corpse. I hope they don't do that with EQ2... <cough> Carebear of Death <cough> Nothing personal, but I HATE having wussy little penalties for death. Ya know what mmorpg had the best death penalty? Ultima online. If someone else got to your body first, they took all of your stuff. Basically, if you die at any point in ultima online, you lose everything you had on you. I know they changed it and tweaked it and stuff, and it's probably just as wussy as any other mmorpg now, but at the time..... Asherons call handled deaths pretty decent with vitae, and item loss retrievable. And you could always carry "Death items" (high cash value, easily replaceable, always the first to go) if you didn't want to do a corpse run.
Atari Master #13 Posted April 4, 2004 Before you had to give up 1 of your rare items if you wanted your exp back when you died in EQII. Now when you die you loose "spirit". The more spirit you have the faster you gain experiance. And well... With less spirit makes things a pain in the ass... And EQ has PvP servers. You kill someone you can take their stuff as long as it's not NO DROP. They had a promotion server called, "Dicsord." When you died you lost EVERYTHING and you LEVELS... Thats hardcore. Gregory DG #14 Posted April 6, 2004 IGN reports no corpse runs (woohoo!) in EQ2: There are three penalties for death in EverQuest II. First is revive sickness, which decreases your abilities for a while. Second is item wear on everything you have equipped, so although you don't have to find your corpse to loot your items after you die, everything you have equipped will become a little more damaged when you die. Lastly is the fact that you lose your spirit shard. http://pc.ign.com/articles/504/504403p3.html

Sylentwulf #16 Posted April 6, 2004 There should be an OPTION though. Like if you DO choose to do a corpse run (successfully), it reverses all wear on items, cures the "sickness" and cuts the spirit penalty in half. Now THAT would be a decent penalty system.
