ziggystar #1 Posted April 7, 2004 So which was the last Atari produced 2600 Cartridge? And besides homebrews what was the last other brand official cartridge produced outside of cheap hong kong ones?
BigFairy321 #2 Posted April 7, 2004 im no expert, but secret quest came out in 1989 (my PAL one did anyways) and it was completely programmed by Nolan Bushnell himself. Its a 16k cart i believe? but i do not kno which was the last produced atari cart.
SS #3 Posted April 7, 2004 So which was the last Atari produced 2600 Cartridge? PAL Klax.

Cootster #6 Posted April 7, 2004 Klax was indeed the last first party cart, and I would guess that the last real other cart was Salu's Acid Drop (if you count them, if you don't, it would have to be an Absolute game . . . Pete Rose Baseball, perhaps?
NovaXpress #7 Posted April 7, 2004 When did Tax Avoiders get released? Wasn't that in the early 90s? That may have been the last US release.
SS #8 Posted April 7, 2004 When did Tax Avoiders get released?
NovaXpress #9 Posted April 7, 2004 Does that say 1982? I never saw that game until the 2600 was re-released after the crash. I can't believe anyone would reissue THAT game. Do we have anyone here who can attest to seeing that cart available in the early 80s? No way was Tax Avoiders out in 82. I would have heard about it. Maybe the copyright refers to the code from Porky's that it stole.
Hackmann #10 Posted April 7, 2004 It probably was released around 1982. My dad (a CPA, of course) bought a copy sometime in the mid-80's, maybe earlier.
NovaXpress #11 Posted April 7, 2004 This is the kid of issue that haunts me way more than it should. I haven't found anything about Tax Avoiders in the magazines or even G.A.M.E.S. ads from the pre-crash days. I saw it on the shelves in major toy stores when the 2600 was re-released so I'm really puzzled by all this.
MegaManFan #12 Posted April 7, 2004 My understanding is that it was dumped on the market after the crash, and that people were buying it at Big Lots and Toy Liquidators type stores for $5 for a while in the mid to late 80's. Doesn't change when it was developed or copyrighted though, nor initially released, but it would account for the confusion.
NovaXpress #13 Posted April 7, 2004 I'm surprized that EG would never make any mention of the game if it was released before 84. They even talked about those game show carts that never even got developed as far as we know. Could this have been a homebrew developed in 1982 which was then sold to a liquidator after the crash? CincYnoTi #14 Posted April 7, 2004 i thought My Golf by HES was the last release. I remember reading about that in the 2600 Connection.
homerwannabee #15 Posted April 7, 2004 would motorodeo be the last NTSC game made
Adrian M #16 Posted April 7, 2004 I thought Road Runner was one of the last NTSC games produced.
Tempest #17 Posted April 7, 2004 Last 2600 game released by Atari Corp.: Klax (PAL only) Last 2600 game released in the US by Atari Corp.: Motorodeo or Ikari Warriors (they were released at the same time IIRC). Last 2600 game released: My Golf by HES (unless someone can find a game with a copyright later than 1992). Tempest
NovaXpress #18 Posted April 7, 2004 Tempest, what do you know about Tax Avoiders? Was it indeed released in 1982?
Tempest #19 Posted April 7, 2004 Tempest, what do you know about Tax Avoiders? Was it indeed released in 1982? AFAIK yes. Why would you think otherwise? Tempest
NovaXpress #20 Posted April 7, 2004 Just because I never saw it in store suntil the late 80s/early 90s and after looking around all night I couldn't find any mention of it in the old magazines. Those G.A.M.E.S. ads in EG named every cart even rumord to be in development, yet nothing on Tax Avoiders. I even counted almost a dozen mentions of Meteorites so if TA was released in 82 it was REALLy obscure. I don't have every magazine, but I have it pretty well covered. Where would it have been distributed? I saw it sold in the Circus World chain after the 2600 was re-released.
Mister VCS #21 Posted April 9, 2004 Wasn´t Ghostbusters II (PAL) the last 2600 game (copyright 1992)?
ziggystar #22 Posted April 9, 2004 Ghostbusters II is a 1992 copyright, and it is a official release. Was it Salu or Activision? Activision did the first ghost busters right?
Lord-Chaos #23 Posted April 10, 2004 Ghostbusters II is a 1992 copyright, and it is a official release. Was it Salu or Activision? Activision did the first ghost busters right? It´s a SALU game , 2 different cartridges exist , 1 Salu-style , 1 activision white label with EPROMs inside. Activision box, just like many other re-released by Salu. Ghostbusters 2 is a port of the game released for ATARI ST, AMIGA and others in 1989.It´s pretty bad. Thimo
