WTB 2600 joystick cords/ dead joysticks.

Recommended Posts

I need a few (five or six) 2600 joystick cords for a project. I'll take broken/ non-functional joysticks as well, but all I really need is the cords. Let me know how many you have and what you want for them. I can pay via paypal or if you insist I'll mail you an old fashoned check. ;)

BUMP!

I'm not gonna have to buy some perfectly good joysticks just to rip out the cords am I?

I wish I had some for you, but I need mine for arcade sticks. :D Be careful though because they often go bad due to bad wires.

Indeed they would. Thank you for the suggestion.

Watch out with those sega genesis extensions. They don't have real copper wires in them, it is like a plastic-wire mix that is really hard to solder and work with. After you take the insulation off the wire will strech out really thin and then you hit it with a lighter, because it won't stay twisted if you don't, and it burns green down the whole length of the stripped wire. After that it is extremely brittle and hard to keep from breaking.

Just a word of warning. I tried a couple for my nes atari controllers and had a hard time with them. (I am pretty sure they have all 9 wires in them though)

That they do, which is why I suggested them. What I didn't know, however, is the other issues that you brought up.

Listen to bjk and not to me. He's the real expert in this area.

Any other alternatives? What about the actual genesis controllers? Do they have copper in the wire? What about 9 wires or less?

Well I ended up winning the Genesis extension cord auction. I'll be happy to report how well they work out.

Please let us know. I have some arcade parts in shipping right now. Take some pictures if you can. Im interested in seeing the plastic core wires.

I'll try to take pics, but my camera is pretty low-res, it may not be up to the job.

If the wire does turn out to be as difficult to work with as bjk said I have some ideas for working around this. We'll have to wait until I get the cables in my hands and have a chance to play around with one.

Lo res pics are fine. Im interested in the wires. Im guessing they did it for cost. Wonder if they are more resilient that way?

I'm thinking that's probably the case, to give the wire a little more flex. I'm interested to see what this stuff looks like.

They are horrid to work with, take my word for it.

I had the same problem with that kind of wire. It's also in some phone extension cords. The best thing to do is to use phone line splicing connectors. They bite into the wire through the insulation so the wire doesn't break.

Tsukasa, that's sort of what I was thinking. I was planning to use some type of crimp connector as opposed to soldering to this stuff.
