Bill Lange #1 Posted April 9, 2004 Ken H. sent me the three Holmes cds earlier this week. I put about 4000 games up on my webserver. I'll try to get the rest of the software up real soon. www.langesite.com/atari/games Let me know if there are any problems except for the fact that the games are listed in reverse alphabetical order. :-) WRL

Goochman #3 Posted April 18, 2004 Holmes was kind enough to send me his CD collection prior to stopping his 8bit site. It is a great collection!
Heaven/TQA #4 Posted April 18, 2004 thanks! possible to zip all files into one download file or even better cd images ready to burn? i mean it's great to have them separatly for spicing up own collections but i would prefer to leech them all-in-one... (am i right TMR? ;=))

(am i right TMR? ;=)) I would also like to see one big download for all of them. I have already downloaded 2000+ one-by-one from vjetnam and would like to just copy a full set over those and insert any that are missing. Very nice collection

kheffington #7 Posted April 19, 2004 I still have the original CDs that I sent him. If you guys want a copy of them, I can make them for you either as 3 CDs or 1 DVD. You would just need to send the 3 blank CDs or 1 blank DVD and a return mailer. PM if you want to get a copy.
Bill Lange #8 Posted April 19, 2004 My webserver is running from my home on a Qwest DSL line. So as you can see, I have a small pipe. If I zip them all up and you guys pound my connection, there will be no bandwidth left for me! :-) I'll try to zip them up when I get a chance and see what the effect is on my bandwidth. Trooper #9 Posted April 19, 2004 Greatest would be to create ISO's of all 3 CD's and find someone who'd be willing to host them. /Troop
devwebcl #10 Posted April 19, 2004 or put them in bittorrent or another p2p network.
Bill Lange #11 Posted April 20, 2004 Sorry guys. The zip files for all the 8-bit software is just too large for me to put on my webserver. Right now there are a little over 4000 games up on my server and I will be adding a few more thousand programs over the weekend. The zip file would be in the hundreds of megs. Ken Heffington has said he would make cd/dvd if you want them. Bill
Trooper #12 Posted April 20, 2004 Sorry guys. The zip files for all the 8-bit software is just too large for me to put on my webserver. Right now there are a little over 4000 games up on my server and I will be adding a few more thousand programs over the weekend. The zip file would be in the hundreds of megs. Hi there! I can very well understand that you're not able/willing to host them since it would probably choke your bandwidth in no time because of all the people who'd want to download the ISO's. Don't you think someone else would be able to host the ISO's though? Reason I'm asking is that I think that there are a lot of people who'd like the complete sets of Holmes' CD's. I'm not going to keep nagging about this though since I, like I said before, fully understand why you can't host those big files and you're already making a great contribution by putting all those games up for download!! I love your site!! Cheers! Troop
Bill Lange #13 Posted April 21, 2004 I wrote a little program that automatically loads all of the 8-bit Atari software on my webserver into an emulator and then takes a screen shot. Its funny to watch the screens come up of stuff I have never seen before. The program needs a little tweeking to handle BASIC games. The screen shots are saved as .pcx and then I use Paint Shop to batch convert them to .png Here are some of the shots.

devwebcl #25 Posted April 23, 2004 Use a different emulator - XFormer 2K aint that good. Yes and I believe someone already told to use atari800win plus is a much better emulator and there you can choose diffenrent type of hardware. I have played those two games in that emu. devweb
