Trip_Cannon #1 Posted April 13, 2004 How is it that Alien Brigade and Planet Smashers are related? It says here on Atariage that Alien Brigade is the sequel to Planet Smashers and PS is the prequel to AB. Can anybody explain the relation?
Tempest #2 Posted April 13, 2004 At the end of Plant Smashers it mentions a sequel "Alien Brigade". However the two games were done by completely different programmers, and I don't think they were really related. Anyone know if the storylines are similar? Trip_Cannon #3 Posted April 13, 2004 Yeah, really... There's nothing similar! What was the point?!
+-^CrossBow^- #4 Posted April 13, 2004 Here is how the two are supposed to be related. Basically, whether you manage to beat Planet Smashers or not, the aliens apparently land on Earth regardless. So Planet Smashers is the alien's trying to come in a knock out Earth. That fails, and so they instead invade. That invasion is the game Alien Brigade where we try and fend them off one last time. I believe both games point to each in the end in that Planet Smashers tell you to play Alien Brigade, and Alien Brigade tells you to play Planet Smashers. It is a very loose plot and obviously thrown together to try and increase sales of both games. Did it work? Hard to tell, but we do know that both Planet Smashers and Alien Brigade are two of the difficult ones to locate as a collector.
DracIsBack #5 Posted April 13, 2004 Yeah, really... There's nothing similar! What was the point?! Marketing hooey! (Note: for anyone who's in marketing, so am I, so I'm allowed to say that). ALIEN BRIGADE plugs PLANET SMASHERS at the end, PLANET SMASHERS plugs ALIEN BRIGADE at the end. It's a lame tie. They don't really have a sequel/prequel relationship in design or story. Trip_Cannon #6 Posted April 13, 2004 Hahaha! I wouldn't have even known otherwise. I mean, I remember looking through the manuals trying to find out the ties but couldn't find anything. So the only tie is a statement at the end. I'll tell you this much, as far as marketing is concerned I would distance myself greatly from Planet Smashers! Alien Brigade is soooo much better! +-^CrossBow^- #7 Posted April 13, 2004 It would have been a better tie in to use Xenophobe instead. Like you took out all the motherships, now its time to board them to salvage them and clean house of the remaining alien infestations on board or something. Or you could tie all three together!! Sure. Planet Smashers and then they take over the space stations..so you get rid of them there...and then they invade Earth so you take em on there. Or...Xenophobe first...and then they use the space stations to build their fleet of ships you fight in Planet Smashers...and then Alien Brigade... On second thought....let's leave Planet Smashers out of the tie in and just use Xenophobe and Alien Brigade.... Hmm..good thing I wasn't in their marketing camp back then ehh? Joey Kay #8 Posted April 14, 2004 Now this is even more of a stretch considering manufacturing timelines, but I'm sure we could then somehow fit Xevious in here as well. But I would suspect there would be a licensing issue for "sequelling" another manufacturer's game! Cheers! Joey
