[Help] Broken Turbo Grafx 16

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I was wondering if there is a guide to diagnosticate and fix a broken TG16?

I got one last year with a game, but it didn't really work. It would play the game, but the graphics were all redish and black with snow and the image scrolls constantly, but the sound worked perfectly. Took it to someone who repaired PSX and PS2 and after a few weeks, this guy changed the video output from RF to coaxial cable, and told me that it was probably the game that was defective. (still charged me full price for that, what a ripoff)

So, last week I got 3 games, just in case he was telling the truth. I connected the TG16 to my TV and now no video or sound is displayed at all. When I turn on the console, I can see some quick "flash" of static on the screen, and the same happens when I turn it off.

So the only solution for me is to attempt to fix it myself. Any advice would be really apreciated, since I can barely use a soldering iron and the last time I attempted something like this, I killed my Atari Lynx AC adapter. :(

Thanks.

Well, the first thing you really need to do is open up the machine and see if a simple, thorough cleaning will help it. While it's opened, thoroughly inspect for anything that looks burned, corroded, or loose.

Thank you! Those are good ideas, I will try them as soon as I open the console.
