Creekree #1 Posted April 15, 2004 hi! i just discovered (in another thread, ya know, broken cartridges and stuff) something that seemingly was pretty much obvious to everyone except me around here: phase zero is public domain! yeeeeehaw! ok, managed to track the rom image down and the most recent version of project tempest - but i just cant get it to run. whats the start and load adress of this game? i don´t know anything about rom headers/no headers/jagfiles/pseudo-jagfiles, so if anyone could point me in the right direction i´d be very grateful! creekree (btw: just bought space war 2000 off ebay and am eagerly waiting for it to be delivered...) Stone #2 Posted April 16, 2004 The publically-released version of Phaze Zero is a straight dump of the flash cart it was on, so there's a blank header on it. With an ALpine or flash cart it loads to $800000 and runs from $802000; I don't know if Project Tempest allows you to load things to cartspace, so this may or may not work for you. Works great on real hardware though Bear in mind it's a very technically-advanced game, so emulation isn't likely to be perfect even if you can get it to run. Creekree #3 Posted April 16, 2004 ....so it should be possible to add the universal rom header glenn bruner made/dug out/whatever? i recently ordered the starcats dev cd, it is on this cd. have you tried it? i do not really know how to append that header, so maybe someone that has a running image can mail it to me perhaps creekree
Stone #4 Posted April 16, 2004 What?...you're making no sense. The universal header just lets it run on a production Jag without an Alpine or flash cart providing the 'kickstart' to start execution. That shouldn't be necessary on an emulator, as it doesn't need to emulate the encryption process. Stone
Creekree #5 Posted April 16, 2004 you are right, but up to now i´ve tried many different start and load adresses (i searched the forum and found that this topic had been discussed before), but without success. so i figured that if there is a universal header on the rom image that would theoretically make it work on a jag, it should work on the emulator (without having to care for start + load adresses). does that make sense? creekree
Stone #6 Posted April 16, 2004 does that make sense? No, because that's not what the universal header's for. Stone
Creekree #7 Posted April 16, 2004 so what is it for then? seems that i misunderstood something... creekree
Shamus #8 Posted April 16, 2004 An image of Phase Zero with the correct crypto signature can be found here. [shameless plug] It also works with the latest CVS build (win32 only ATM!) of Virtual Jaguar PJE. [/shameless plug] If I recall correctly the flashcart copy loads at $800000 and runs at $802000... I believe that all you have to do is load it like a regular ROM image without any other voodoo necessary.
