Power for Sears Video Arcade II

Recommended Posts

OK, I asked this a few months ago--I need to find out what kind of a power supply I need for a Sears Video Arcade II. Someone suggested a Radio Shack universal power supply, 9V with a DC tip-negative. I finally got around to going to Radio Shack and they said they needed to know how many Amps. So, what's the scoop? Anyone know?

The 5200 power supply works fine with the video arcade II.  It's the same power supply that came with the V.A. II anyway.

It may work but it's not the one that shipped with it.

There was a thread on this a month or so ago, do a search for it and you'll probably have more info than you will need.

An actual SVAII power supply is 9VAC, and I think it's 850ma, though it might have been 750ma. So if the coaxial plug is the right size, you might want to try an old NES power supply. If you use a DC power supply, anywhere from 9-12 volts should be fine.

My SVAII came with a 9v/850mA AC, but I'm pretty sure I've tried it with the regular Atari 9v/500mA adapter just fine, too.

All my SVAII's have a barrel type plug for power similar to the 5200 & 8-bits, not like the original 2600's :?

Actually you're right, though I'm certain I have an Atari unit that uses the same type as well. Offhand I can't remember which though. :?

Either way, you should still be able to use a 500mA-1A universal on it.

Coleco's 2600 clones used the same specs for power as the 2600. I think most universal psu's are around 700-800mA anyway, should be fine. And the SVAII was AC out put running a DC into it should also be fine Alot of the universal psu's comes as DC anyway. Some with removeable tips, some come with 3 or so leads (pigtails) each with different type plug.
