jeepnut24 #1 Posted April 17, 2004 Is there a good online write up for hooking up a joystick and buttons. Preferably with picts. I tried arcadcontrols, but its impossible to navigate. Thanks for any help you all can give me.
Cassidy Nolen #2 Posted April 18, 2004 Not sure what to what you are hooking up, but most systems work by grounding a circuit (ie, going left connects the 'left' for that player to ground). Buttons work the same way. If you need to know what the pinout is on your board, there are schematics in the manuals (usually). You can download them from www.klov.com HTH, Cassidy
jeepnut24 #3 Posted April 18, 2004 I was thinking more along the lines of mame or the actual 2600 itself. Thanks for the link though. Tons of info there.
Stingray #4 Posted April 19, 2004 What will you be connecting your controls to? If it's a hacked keyboard you'll probably need to run two wires per switch to each switch on the keyboard that you plan to use. One wire for hot one wire for ground. If you're using a keyboard encoder (recomended) then you only need to run one wire per switch to the appropriate terminal on the encoder and the other side of the switches will all be daisy chained to the ground terminal on the encoder. I'm using an iPac from Ultimarc, and it works great. Check their website: http://www.ultimarc.com under iPac, then instructions you can find installation info. If you're just making a 2600 control there's nothing to that if you're using an old joystick cord. Just connect the appropriate colored wire for each direction (white-up, blue-down, green-left, brown-right) to that direction on the joystick switches. Connect the fire button to it's wire (orange). Daisy chain the ground wire (black) to the other side of your switches. -S
jeepnut24 #5 Posted April 19, 2004 Thanks for the information on the 2600 wiring. Any ideas on a switching schema between conrollers and paddles? Can I just wire them both up to the same 9 pins?
Stingray #6 Posted April 19, 2004 That's something I intend to try in the near future (once that lot of cables I got on ebay gets here). Not sure whether a swich is needed or not, but I'll find out. -S
jeepnut24 #7 Posted April 19, 2004 I actually plan to try it out this weekend. Im going to run both a joystick and a set of paddles to 9 pins and give it a go without a switch. I don't remember there being much overlap on the pin outs. I know that you can run them straight to the board, but there are differant pin outs on the riot chip. Im going to just have to try it and find out I guess.
Stingray #8 Posted April 19, 2004 Going by memory, I think only two pins are used on both. Even if you needed a switch it wouldn't be much trouble to wire it in for only two wires. -S
