Side effect of the side offers?

Recommended Posts

Most of you probably already put that one on their watch list:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...MEBWA%3AIT&rd=1

I guess someone made a side offer or something and the seller realized something and removed the Crazy climber and is now selling it alone in another auction.

If you bidded with in mind to buy CC, make sure you read the addition because CC is no more included in there.

Sad but true I guess. :D

He isn't doing anything too underhanded. He probly got a tip that that particular game is rare and now is selling it in a seperate auction starting at .01 Seems like it would sell better seperate anyhow.

Now that's something I don't understand. If someone is going to go to the trouble of E-Mailing the seller to tell them it's rare, why wouldn't they just make the guy an offer? Makes a hell of a lot more sense to me.

I passed an auction with Star Maze in it the other day, Atari 8bit title. It wasn't listed in the description, but I could sort of make out what it was. I emailed the seller to ask about it, and she told me someone made a side offer and it was no longer available. The next day her account had been NARU'ed and all her auctions had been shut down. :? I wonder, especially after reading about Rick having hard time sending questions to sellers, if maybe ebay is monitoring the questions/emails being sent between users? :?: It just seemed like a mighty big coincidence her having been sent offer on it, accepting, then my email the next day, then boom! She got canned. :ponder:

Here's her feedback Not someone you would think would get the boot. Although if she buys she could have just had a second/third non-paying notice filed against her. They will ban for that. But judging by her fb I couldn't see any reason for it. And I didn't see anything wrong with any of her other auctions.

He may have received offers, and just decided to let it ride on ebay. Thanked Deathtrap for his generous offer, but decided against it. Or maybe someone did make a $20 offer and the seller decided to do a little research and discovered it's worth a tad more than that. :ponder:

Yes, I have succumbed to the dark (ish) side.

I've always hated the idea of side deals, but I've been screwed that way so often that I've had to join in.

In fact, I asked the seller to post it with a BIN, so that I could buy it within eBay rules. He said that he would accept my proposal, but would not ship outside of the US!

Since then, I've had an offer from an AA member to help out with shipping to the US only. However, I suspect that I was not the only person to make such an offer, and the seller is obviously fairly sensible.

Never mind, other fish in the sea, etc.

LOL I was only joking above. :P!

I know, but you were right. It was worth a try, and I made sure that I didn't try to infringe eBay's rules.

I don't like these shenanigans, but it's getting tough to buy stuff without resorting to this kind of thing.

Bah! I tried to make a side offer for a lot with some rare games and the seller refused.

It seems almost if everyone expects their Atari auction to go over $100 or more. Geez. Why is it that everyone else comes across Waterworlds and Crazy Climbers in the wild but I never do? Geez.

I offered the starting price + $10 + shipping for a lot and the seller still refused. That would have been $70 total.

But alot of people start low, it is an auction, so they are hoping to see lots of bids and the price go bumpity bump!

So you're basically offering $10 over the starting bid to end the auction right then, I probably wouldn't bite either. Depends on the starting price too, but with a fair sized lot and a $50 opening bid, I would think maybe $75-80ish might get it ended early sometimes.. But then think you can resale parts so you aren't out as much as your bid. Really all depends on what you're willing to pay, if you really want it, alot of times you feel you would win it regaurdless, might as well offer a somewhat sane bid via email before you enter in that $1200 snipe and watch as some other lune proxied for $500 :P

I kind of made a side deal with this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=3089029164

All I did was ask her if I could buy Montezuma's Revenge separate if her reserve price was not met and she sent me an email back asking me what it was worth to me. I told her I'd give her $10 for cart and manual and she agreed. :D

I'll admit, I have made side offers before. To my knowledge though, only one has ever worked. I can't say who or what but I can report the seller was thoroughly satisfied with the outcome, and I was satisfied with an R9. :D

I hope she notified the winning bidder that Monty wasn't going to be included in that set anymore? She never updated her auction listing to reflect that...so that isn't good.

Hmm...

If your talking about what slade said, he says in his post that if the reserve was NOT met then he would buy it seperate. And she has already relisted it with montezumas not in the lot.
