Which Cart is the hardest to get hold of?

Recommended Posts

I bought a Rarity 10 cart loose yesterday, just got me thinking, which is considered the rarest cart to get hold of that WAS released, not a prototype. I use a PAL system so is the rarest cart different for PAL and NTSC.

Any thoughts?

FWIW, Obelix isn't (IMHO) at all deserving of a rarity 10.. I've seen more NTSC Obelixs than I've seen some of the Rarity 9s like Out of Control.

I think was discussed in the Rarity Guide part of the forums a while back, and I'm not the only one to think so.

Of course that doesn't stop it being a nice score, though... :)

In answer to your question, Air Raid, I reckon. It's the only one I've never seen on eBay (apart from odd stuff like particular BB carts).

IMHO the rarest PAL cart would be the General Retreat/Westward Ho from Playaround. I have only seen that one on an auction site once. I think Marco bought it for something between 300 and 400 euro's.

Other rare PAL carts include Pengo (Atari), Treasure Below and Steeplechase from Videogems (the other 3 seem to be more common as they show up on ebay every once in a while. Haven't seen these 2 on ebay yet).

BTW which rarity 10 cart did you buy? I hope it wasn't a PAL obelix, because that one is not even close to being rare (as mentioned before, neither is the NTSC version, but that seems to be a sensitive subject here :) )

Cheers,

Raymond

It does appear to be a fueled debate, I've not even heard of General Retreat, I'll look into that one.

The cart I got was Motorodeo, I paid just short of $23 dollars. It may appear expensive to those in the states, but with the UK exchange rate the pound to the dollar being so good (for us in the UK) it worked out at £12. Which to me is great, I don't buy playstation games but in comparison this is the same price as a plastation platinum game.

This roughly equates to 12 loaves of bread, and extra 3 loaves of bread for shipping.

It's a good time for U.S. sellers to sell on UK Ebay, you could probably get a third more dollars for a sale. :) Pal carts though. :(

Hate to burst your bubble, but PAL Motorodeo is not a rarity 10 cart. I would say 6 maybe. Assuming you got a PAL version ofcourse (if it were a confirmed NTSC cart it wouldn't sell for £12 i guess)

Anyway, They show up frequently in France, but since you are in the UK (where people pay insane prices for anything remotely rare) i guess you got a good deal.

Cheers,

Raymond

I didn't know that, still I didn't buy the game for rarity, I bought the game because I really wanted it to play, have played it a lot on Stella, but would rather sit at the TV and play it on a console, I'm more than happy with it at the price as I've not seen one around for the last six months.

In the end, that's the only thing that matters :) Anyway, was it this one you bought:

http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...&category=62053 (does state in the auction the rarity is 8 out of 10)

if so, you better could have bid on this one:

http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...MEBWA%3AIT&rd=1

Went much cheaper (although postage would probably be much higher, but you can always leave the rest out).

Cheers,

Raymond

I saw that auction, had it on watch, the seller never replied to a question I asked, When I looked again, the auction had ended :_( That was such a nice lot if you would toss out the Jr.

Aye, that is the one (the first one), the second looked a steal, I would never have happened across it though, I just tend to do regular searchs "atari 2600 .

My limit for a game is £15-20 if it's very infrequent in listings, I have my big list of wants and I use the rarity guide to get an idea of how much it is or should likely cost me. For instance Pitfall II really want that might have to stretch to a bit compared obviously to space invaders.

When I was a kid, we only had a handful of games, I mean a handful, so we used to rent games from the video shop, now with ebay etc it's great getting hold of the games you always wanted and discovering ones I never heard of. However I am very selective, I don't go for games that I don't want to play and only loose carts. Pac-man and similar types don't get a look in.

Like others have said, I think Air Raid by Menavision is generally considered the rarest.

Hardest to get hold of might be any cart owned by ATARIPITBULL :) Best case scenario you end up with a bite taken out of your ass *checks belty's location* ..er arse. Worst case, you're a splotch on the floor. ;)

The ET carts at the very bottom of the landfill are pretty hard to get ahold of.

It's a good job the ET carts are keeping the Pac-Man carts tightly wedged down.

Oops! There I go again, banging on about Pac-Man being crap, I might get banned.
