I like the idea of different color cases...

Recommended Posts

I like the idea of a sort of green see through case for the Lynx. I think that would be really cool. :D Has anybody modded their Lynx case to have different colors/anything else cosemtically different about the regular Lynx case.

Hi, I have always been interested in other color Lynx's as well.. I had an Atari Lynx 1 that was in real bad shape cosmetically (the paint was badly worn off of the sides).. after some sanding, and primering.. I painted it with a gloss blue spraypaint and it turned out very well.. I have not yet tried anything with a Lynx 2 yet. (always perferred the original Lynx over it)

I haven't painted any Lynxes but it can be done. Lynx II seems somewhat easier though.

Or if you want a see through color, you'd need to make a mould of the case (both top and bottom of each case part) and then fill the mould with reisen. Reisen are usually semi transparent and can be colored to taste. Here's a quick how0to link I found using Google: http://www.powerbook.org/duo-zone-e/danger...lear-parts.html (it's for Powerbook Duo but could apply to anything else)

Mountain Dew edition Lynx anyone?

Hi, here is a picture I scanned of the lynx (Just put it on a flatbed scanner)

http://www.netmdc.com/~skysoft/lynx.jpg

It doesn't look quite like the real thing (the gloss paint doesn't really show).. The LCD cover is also pretty beat up.. trying to smooth out some scratches also butchered the atari logo ^_^ but I still like the results

Thanks :)

The actual system looks a lot more impressive than the scan shows of it. The paint just looks very different in the picture.. The only reason I painted it is because it was given to me, it was broken (some cold solder joints and a broken power connector), and also my 4th Lynx (have 2 lynx 1's, and 2 lynx 2's).

It probably could be done pretty easily, but I spent quite a bit of time sanding with 800 grit wet/dry sand paper, didn't want to risk anything :)

I am considering doing a Lynx 2, but just not sure what kind of color I'd want though.. Maybe an Atari ST color scheme (grey with blue buttons) :)

Some of the first model I Lynxes were actually painted blue. I believe that mcgrail007 had one of them for sale last year.

I've also heard that some pre-release Lynxes were painted reddish-pink, but have never seen one of these myself.

The blue Lynx looks quite cool! If I had a spare Lynx, I might try myself ;)

A color that would look on both Lynx I and II is silver, in my opinion.

Wow, the blue Jaguar looks very impressive :) I may have to find another machine to attempt to paint now

Silver would be nice for a Lynx.. there are quite a few colors I think would work.. When I primered my Lynx 1, it looked good with just the primer (grey).. I was also considering trying to remove all the paint off of the plastic and having it just all white, no paint.. but it's not worth the trouble..

I am really considering painting my Lynx 2.. maybe replacing the red power LED with a blue one ^_^ Not sure what color I'd go with though (only have blue paint and primer at the moment) :)

I am curious to see what an original painted Blue lynx or the prerelease red/pink one looks like.. if anyone has a picture, or URL of one, please post

I think the deal with these was that when a company makes sample/test units they use whatever plastic they have laying around in the molds since its cheapest.

If I remember correctly they had both the blue and pink Lynxes at CGE last time I was there (2000).

I would love a transparent lynx, except I would never be able to use my erm.. "testing" lynx. Its the biggest wirey and duct tape infested mess you'll ever see, but it runs wonderfully (with all of its "patches" that is  ) I'd have to settle for a nice blue along with a new LED.
