Mister VCS #1 Posted July 25, 2001 Hi, whats your favorite and your worst Realsports game? Here is my list: favorite: Tennis, Boxing worst: Soccer By the way: where can I get the Realsports Basketball prototype? Thanks, Markus
Joel D. Park #2 Posted July 25, 2001 I kinda thought RS Volleyball has an original feel to it. I never had any of the RS games back in the day, so I never really got a chance to play them with other people and stuff. I always thought Mattel Super Challenge Football was a great football game though.
Tempest #3 Posted July 25, 2001 Am I the only one who likes RS Soccer? I was never a big Soccer fan, but RS Soccer didn't seem so bad. Maybe because it really wasn't like Soccer at all, which probably means it was a bad Soccer game. I never really liked any of the RS games on the 2600, but RS Baseball for the 5200 is really good. +johnnywc #4 Posted July 25, 2001 Favorites would have to be Volleyball and Tennis. Growing up RS Baseball and Football seemed cool, but with Super Football and Pete Rose Baseball these will probably never be played again. Soccer would have been good, but unfortunately it was missing one vital element (well, maybe more): a goalie!
utamav91 #5 Posted July 25, 2001 Volleyball was just cool. The setting sun, the decent graphics, the shadow and 3D effect worked nicely. I remember loving soccer at the time because it reminded me of the indoor game, which was big in the Dallas area due to the success at the time of the Sidekicks of the MISL. But as I've gotten older, I realize now that outdoor soccer is not unlike watching paint dry--interesting for a while, but overall not much fun. But I would have much rather traded smaller players for better gameplay. As it turns out, this is a slow game of pong with a goalie box drawn on the playfield. That being said, I loved Pele Soccer--the fireworks were cool and there was some actual passing and ball movement involved. I'm still trying to figure out how they were able to do the "enter name" thing in the tennis--unless the actual kernal for tennis is very simple by its very nature. Probably not as complicated as football (out of bounds, down, 1st down marker, clock ,yards to go, etc...to keep track of) I'm really sorta surprised the Double Dunk game wasn't released under the Realsports label. I know they had a RS Basketball in development (the proto is widely available on the net) but once they released DD, wasn't RS Basketball sort of needless? Two hoops titles would have been a little redundant. Realsports Baseball was just 'that' far off from being a terrific game. Slow the runners down, work in a curveball feature somehow, stuff like that. But I'm not sure there's anything that could have been better than Pete Rose baseball. That game holds up well to this day. It rivals some of the better NES games. If the development and programming expertise were to have been such so that sort of game (and Super Football) could been released closer to when Intellivision was released, Atari could have milked another few years out of the 2600. As much fun as ice hockey was on Activision's attempt, could Atari have done better? I bet the Marketing argument against the design and release of a game like that would have been the possible lack of nationwide appeal--only in the last 8 years or so has hockey been adopted in the southern states (not traditionally hotbeds of hockey back then --Phoenix, Dallas, Florida didn't have teams back then, and minor league hockey was limited to about 20 or 30 farm and top independent clubs) The RS Boxing game is pretty good. It's not just a total button-pressing contest like the Double Dragon or all the other kickboxing games of a few years ago, and each boxer has their own personality. One of the best games ever for the 2600 in my opinion. Much better than the highly-acclaimed Activtision version. Rhindle The Red #8 Posted July 25, 2001 On a side note, shouldn't Infogrames sue HBO over the Bryant Gumbel show "RealSports"? Or should we just list it as a TV Show 'based on a video game'? For the record- Favorite: Basketball Least favorite: Baseball [ 07-25-2001: Message edited by: Rhindle The Red ]
Skatepunk60 #9 Posted July 25, 2001 volleyball and tennis ruled (even tho activision tennis was better) and football wasnt the best.
Scooterb23 #10 Posted July 26, 2001 Favorite: Volleyball, Tennis Least: Football As stated before, volleyball was just beautiful to look at and play. Tennis was a lot more fun than Activision's Tennis as well. Football though was way too easy, it wasn't more than 2 games before I was winning games 99-0, boring!! Eckhard Stolberg #11 Posted July 27, 2001 Speaking of the RealSports series, my silver label version of "Football - RealSports Soccer" says trademark of Taito America Corp. Anyone know why that is? Is there a RealSports arcade game by Taito that Atari licensed or something? Ciao, Eckhard Stolberg

If you look closely, you'll see there's no asterisk on the label for the footnote to refer to. It's probably just another Tramiel-era misprint, like "Use with Joystick Controllers" on paddle games, etc.
atari70s #13 Posted July 28, 2001 hmm maybe the trademark thing didhappen after 1982 thus no * on the cart. and by 1987 somethign happened adn boom a* was born lol
liquid_sky #14 Posted July 28, 2001 I say either Volleyball or Soccer has to be my fave, Pele's Soccor was always..well...nasty looking and no fun to me. Worst is football, it was too easy
VectorGamer #15 Posted August 27, 2013 RealSports games tend to be too easy. For example, bunting for home runs in RealSports Baseball. In any event, I would go with RealSports Baseball and RealSports Boxing being my favorites and RealSports Football not being a favorite.

Cynicaster #20 Posted August 28, 2013 The one thing I will never forget about RS Baseball is how you can hit the ball off the left field wall and get thrown out at first base. I know realism in VCS games is inherently in short supply, but.... c'maaaaaaan.
