Finishing HALO on the LEGENDARY difficulty level

Recommended Posts

Many claim to have done it, and I've been taking a stab at it since I got my Special Edition HALO XBOX. You really have to change your entire approach in how you play the game since enemies are stronger, have more cunning movement/attack patterns, and your shield depletes faster and recharges slower.

The key to success in the early levels seems to be using the environment as much as possible for cover, shoot-and-go techniques, sniping and/or picking off whatever you can from a distance, utilizing your Warthog's turret gun, as well as proceeding cautiously. No more of this "charge in with guns blazing" stuff that you can get away with on EASY and NORMAL. So far I've cleared my way through the Silent Cartographer on LEGENDARY and I feel that this is doable!

But, I already have a bad feeling about the Library and Flood levels where you're attacked by a seemingly endless army of Flood soldiers...what are some general tips for those particular levels? Mind you, I'm not looking for cheats or anything of that nature, just some good all around strategies for staying alive in the aforementioned levels.

Is it true you get to see master chiefs face?

No. There is a brief moment at the end where you seem him take off his helmet, but the camera angle deliberately hides his face just before the ending credits roll.

You get a little bonus part of the ending for beating the game on legendary. Nothing spectacular, but pretty funny.

Patience is the key to beating the game on legendary. There's a few level guides out there for how to get through on that difficulty, but it's still pretty rough.

Get a partner the only way to beat it on legendary,if not here are some tips:

watch out for checkpoints when you have low health, and just prepare to get the shit kicked out of you non stop. Don't let yourself be backed into a corner, let the little Flood spores hit you and concentrate on taking out the big guys. Get a hold of a shotgun as soon as you can and a rocket launcher if possible. Try to keep up with the Monitor, you do not want to get lost, and keep an eye out for grenades.

Good luck!

I dunno but my brother beats it on legendary going alone with his eyes closed.

As for me.. I'm still on the part where you land on the planet.. yeah, the beginning. :ponder: It's just that part where you get the car? I just drive and drive all over those damn mountains and I have no clue where to go! One time I drove for a good 30 minutes.. only to find I had found my ship where I had crashed. i.e. I went right back to the beginning

I find it quite easy on legendary now. Only hard bit is level 3 when you go up the grav lift 'into the belly of the beast' I find it hard to kill the invisible elites because I like to take the sniper rifle up with me for the large hanger section as that is good weopon management and makes that whole hanger so much easier.

The library is easy on any level, just the same old crap use Assault rifle and Shotgun and grenade. Go for head shots to save ammo and use the exploding flood to kill others. Easy stuff.

My biggest tip for Legendary is use the Needler gun on Elites - guaranteed kill everytime.

LMAO :lolblue:

I have finished it on Legendary many times myself. Grenades are the key to victory in any game that offers them :D

Yeah grenades in Halo are great fun too :D

I find I use the melee attack a lot more lately - I love punching them Elites :D

Me and Ethan actually went through the whole game on Legendary with just melee attacks. Of course certain spots you need to shoot an object but other than that, we never fired a shot. We finished it too :) I always use those in multiplayer too - jump over look them, look down and punch.

Made some more progress last night on my quest for a LEGENDARY finish! I suppose I should say that I have beaten HALO several times on EASY and NORMAL modes, in fact, I created a topic celebrating my first go-through shortly after the XBOX was released in late 2001...search the forums and you'll probably find it! Ah yes...the "early adopter" days of the XBOX!

Anyway, I've fought my way up to the Flood level and that's where I saved my game. I'm really liking this increased level of difficulty, but as I stated, I still haven't touched the Library level. I'll be clear, the Library is not an overly difficult level, it's just a few sections (towards the end) when you're flanked by a large stream of Flood soldiers who seemingly come out of nowhere.

 in the early Xbox days I discovered that you can beat Halo on easy level firing just 4 shots in the whole game. (The beginning of the level after the Library you have to shoot four sentinals to open the door and they don't get close enough to punch).

I think I was the first person to do this and I announced it on loads of forums and everyone started doing it :D You can just walk through the rooms on easy and they can hardly touch your energy sheild. It must be hard to die!!! :D

I used to go through levels seeing how many marines I could keep alive by the end. Let me tell you, in AotCR, if you keep all your marines alive to the last part, they've annihlate the covenant forces, since they'll all gang up on one at a time and kill them all rather methodically. Obviously, if you take out the ones on vehicles, you can do really well, but yeah, they can ho em.

I'm not interested in finishing the game using just punches...I know it can be done and I appreciate the feedback.

They're just talking about how to make the game they've all played hundreds of times new and exciting. It's pretty hilarious to watch my two guys run around the Halo, bitch slapping the Covenant :D

I played for about an hour last night and managed to clear my way through the Flood level (surprisingly easy...didn't die once!) and am now at the very beginning of the massive Library Complex. Will resume this weekend and report back with my progress..

You should walk the Library level - its just the same as normal just more dudes and more repetative.

Two Betrayals on the other hand might give you a few moments :D

Actually by coincidence I'm also currently playing Halo on Legendary and have just finished Two Betrayals this morning - I've just got the easy Maw level to do and I'm done (again).

A friend of mine and I beat Halo on legendary once. We actually played through most of the game in the span of a couple of days. We had some fun getting the warthog through a few doors that were obviously too small for them (I believe it was on the Cartographer level when you're supposed to walk down a long ramp. We decided it would be more fun to drive. :) ) If you haven't gotten the cars through some impossible spaces, it's not too terrible as long as you know where to put the grenades.

Legendary is very easy in co-op, a much better challange on single player.

I like Halo so much because everytime I do the campaign (Legendary level always ;) ) I play it a different way, using different tactics or weapons. There is also a lot of different shortcuts to be found which is nice. This time though I have done it all the long way using no short cuts and using the pistol when poss, just for the hell of it. I dunno why, but I really like the pistol this time around. :D

YES!!

Finished the Library (pretty damn easy, if I say so myself)...just had an issue at the very end when the final door opens and you're besieged by dozens of Flood soldiers. Aside from that, it was pretty easy...just keep moving and backtracking if the Flood rush you and pick them off using whatever cover you can find!

I was on my way to the second pulse generator before saved my game, so I'll pick up there. But you're right, once you get the hang of it, Legendary definitely seems doable! :) Not much longer now!

Me and my friends always do that. We actually got some videos where we got the warthog into the room on the bottom floor of the Silent Chartographer and you can see the warthog, bullet holes, and blood everywhere, it's awesome. We plan on getting an ATI card just to get that clip off tape and on the net (along with our "how not to park cars video's") One thing I like, is on the "kick the rock off the ledge part, if you ride the Warthog, and back up at the right speed, the warthog will overtake and kill Master Chief, and when the video ends, you can go raid your dead bodie if your low on grenades or ammo :D .
