I Finally Broke 1,000,000 on Mr. Do!

Yes, after over 2 years of practice at this game in Mame32, last night I scored 1,027,100 points and made it to Scene 67.

 

No, I did NOT use the 255 lives trick! I played the Taito version which is slightly easier than the Universal one early on. After Scene 25 or so, there's no significant difference in difficulty.

 

I'm still a long way away from the record, which I've heard is about 8,000,000.

That's great I played a lot of Mr. Do in my life but I don't think I was ever naturally THAT good at the game

I was stuck at around 500K for a long time before I found a website that gave me a few pointers. The key is to find a way to the top of the screen as soon as possible on the later boards. Hang out above the apples, and you'll be amazed how often the monsters dig right up beneath them, essentially committing mass suicide.

 

Hanging out at the top of the screen also makes it easy to pick off letter monsters the instant they appear.

 

Now I'm going back to Ms. Pac-man. Maybe I'll have better luck after taking a break for a while.

Today I scored 1,248,600 on Mr. Do! and made it to Scene 90. Check out the recording below. I used Mame32 version 84 (the latest one I believe).
