Pic's of my custom vintage game case!!

Recommended Posts

I just got this recently and thought I would show a few pics, It is a very heavy well put together wooden case made for atari games, it holds 64 games packed full and I tried to take pictures of the coolest thing about it, which is the glass door which has etched into the glass a tv with a video game playing that looks like a cross between space war and breakout if you can imagine that, also has 2 2600 joysticks etched in, as well as the background is like a checker board with stars and stuff like a space scene or something also etched into the glass, the pics in no way show how cool this thing looks, sorry for the dark crappy pics, I tryed taking like 50 different pics in different lighting in different angles and only got a few of them to barely turn out which is the ones you see here. Anyway thanks for looking and sorry about writting such a long post. :D

Looks cool! I tried adding a little light and blowing it up some I can make out the etching the tv & breakout looking screen, just barely see the sticks down there, kind of a hard item to photo. Looks great thou! If you really want to go to the effort you might could take it outside during the daylight and get some better shots. Might even put white paper behind the glass to help out.

Very cool item thou! Do you know the history of it?

Well sku_u, the guy I bought it from said it was a Vintage wall Case made of solid hardwood with glass front door with a vintage game system etched into it. So I really dont know for sure, It is a very nice very well built case with a flawless finish, It looks and feels very expensive but could be some cheep well stained case for all I know??

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks antique. I was thinking it was a clock cabinet because it looks very similar to some Seth Thomas cabinets from the 40s and 50s.

Either way, it's being put to much better use as an Atari cabinet. That's one of the nicest looking cabinets customized for Atari carts I've ever seen.

Well at closer inspection it looks custom made to me and antique, the way the little compartments are made and attached are the same as the rest of the case is made and has some of the old dove tail looking or whatever you call the corners and how they go together ya know its not done cheeply thats for sure, but I cant find any marks or stamps or signature marks ya know anything that would say it was manufactured, but the way it is put together looks so professional and delicate with perfect flawless craftsmanship. I hope it is old antique and worth something, that would be cool, but even if its not, it still looks real cool!! 8)

It looks really good and it does sort of look like an antique. I am wondering where you purchased it from?

Ihf, that is the exact same case!!! I got mine from a guy on ebay and he swears its vintage, which it could be but with you haveing one to I wonder where they were made and when?? does yours have any manufacturer marks or anything?? These might not be old at all they could be fairly new for all I know, how long ago did you get yours, do you know anything else about them??? Like GAMERZ said "it dosent sound so custom now"!!! :?

That's not a bad thing. It's quite nice, and must fairly rare too, I'd never seen one, not too many people have chimed in as having owned one, so it's most likely a HTF item nowadays. Looks like it would have been made for Atari/Coleco or something along those lines by the size of it, probably is 15 yrs old or there abouts. It's definitely cool, matches the Atari, and has 2600 sticks on it, it's badass! :D

Yeah, when I got it, (about 2 or 3 years ago) I thought it was a custom job as well. The etched glass doesn't really show an official ATARI version of breakout. So I would agree that it was made for video games in general back then. I don't have a sticker or label on it either. So when I saw this post I about freaked out. In fact, I did a double take on the room it was in to make sure it wasn't my place!

Maybe I should take it to the Antique roadshow. Have some guy explain the history.......

Appraiser: "Notice the etched glass....This person knew what he was doing....a fine craftsmanship all around. By the shape of the stars in the starfield, I would say that this was made circa 1985, or '86........I would give the estimated value on this piece to be....oh........3 to 5 dollars.... A fine product!"

me: "Wow....thanks.....I'll be keeping this for a long time!"

(close up of case.......)

sound effect: chimes

VINTAGE VIDEO GAME CABINET: 3.00 - 5.00

The etched glass doesn't really show an official ATARI version of breakout.

That is typical of 3rd party products, unlicensed products in general. TV shows using noname products, think of the soda cans with nonbrands on them, All the older sports games that used fake names, often very close, and with real stats, just swapped the first letter of their first & last names sometimes loony enough to slip by.

Whether it's an official version or not is of little consequence, people who were shopping for something like this, would recognize the game screen to be a videogame of that era, whether it was breakout or whatever doesn't really matter. Breakout wouldn't be a selling point for me nohow what a boring looking game that it! Pac-man or Ms Pac maybe or Donkey Kong or DKJR or a space game with lots going on, Breakout I think I'd rather pass...

Antique roadshow lol every time I catch that it's always a UK edition, they give the estimate in pounds, then below that it displays US $$$ I don't think I've seen a US version in some time. Yet it's often a subject of ridicule here ever since an Atari appeared on. I think a modest estimate would be $25-50 possibly upwards to $100 or so.

If it had Atari etched into it, I'd bet it be well over the $100 mark :)

I dont remember seeing one listed with a bin on it, but there could be a whole bunch of them out there for all I know. :? Anyone else have one or seen one besides me and IHF ??

I actually don't think this is a custom case. I picked up one of these at the Electronicon videogame show in Philly (the precursor to PhillyClassic) back in 1997 and it worked wonders in my gameroom until I moved across country. I sold it on eBay a few months ago (and it was a PITA to pack and ship).

Yours looks more polished, but other than that they looked exactly the same. And it didn't look like it was hand made or anything custom like that.

Man this thing is just getting more common everyday, pretty soon someone will show a link to wallmart with this case in the jewlery section on sale for $4.27 or something, Oh well its still kinda cool looking :? Yea I am allmost convinced that it is not really old or rare at all but just maybe a little old made in maybe small #'s by some overseas company or something. If anyone finds out any info please let us know!! :)
