Mindfield #2 Posted April 28, 2004 Sweet! I recently completed my loose CBS collection. I need to get 'em all CIB now. :-)
the 5th ghost #3 Posted April 28, 2004 What do you think?! You're right, you DO have a complete CBS collection of Atari 2600 games!
Jess Ragan #4 Posted April 28, 2004 He's still got to get Wings and Maddeness. The last one will be especially hard as he'll have to pull it out of John Madden's cold, flabby hands. JR
Mindfield #5 Posted April 28, 2004 He's still got to get Wings and Maddeness. The last one will be especially hard as he'll have to pull it out of John Madden's cold, flabby hands. JR That'd be easy. Get him to show you the proto, then throw him a turducken. While he's distracted and gorging on his triple-feast, run off with the cart. :-) What's Wings? Nothing here or on Tempest's site about it. Jess Ragan #6 Posted April 28, 2004 It was mentioned in an early edition of the Digital Press price guide. It may since have been removed. It was supposed to be some kind of flight simulator, and I think it may have used the Booster Grip. http://www.videogamearchive.com/dpsightz/a...ari2600_cbs.jpg JR
Mindfield #7 Posted April 28, 2004 That's funny, 'cos that flier announced the "first two" RAM-Plus games, one of which being Tunnel Runner. They released 3 in all and yet Wings never got released, even though Mountain King and Omega Race were -- despite being later releases than Tunnel Runner. Any reason why it was cancelled/shelved? Obviously it wasn't a crash thing unless it was taking so long to develop that it ran into the crash...
Brad2600 #8 Posted April 28, 2004 Nice collection, smile_walle! I have all the released CBS games loose.
Fellow Atari Man #9 Posted April 29, 2004 Any reason why it was cancelled/shelved? Obviously it wasn't a crash thing unless it was taking so long to develop that it ran into the crash... It WAS taking a long time to develop, I remember reading about it "back in the day" for like two stinkin' years (complete with mock-up screenshots) but it was never released. (No, don't have any scans of the magazines that I read/saw pics about, but a friend of mine did, since he had a subscription to Electronic Games.) scogey #10 Posted April 29, 2004 Cool! Looks like all the boxes are near mint too. I only had 1 CBS game as a kid...Gorf. I loved that game because it had 4 levels....(that was huge back then).
Mindfield #11 Posted April 29, 2004 It WAS taking a long time to develop, I remember reading about it "back in the day" for like two stinkin' years (complete with mock-up screenshots) but it was never released. (No, don't have any scans of the magazines that I read/saw pics about, but a friend of mine did, since he had a subscription to Electronic Games.) Must have been a difficult concept they were going after. I can't quite imagine what they'd have been trying to do that was so hard to implement on the VCS though (well, I mean I _can_ imagine they may have developed kitchen sink syndrome -- but conceptually similar games have been released by other companies. F-14 Tomcat and Spitfire Attack come to mind...) It'd be interesting to find out what they were going for that just wasn't coming together for them. On the whole CBS released some very good games, so I'm inclined to think Wings would have been pretty decent, too.

Big Player #15 Posted April 29, 2004 I used to have two of those stick stands with my 800XL. I have no idea what happened to them. I guess I threw them out with all my other 800XL stuff.

ATARIPITBULL #21 Posted April 29, 2004 There is 1 more thing you smile_walle you will need if you really want to say you have them all the CBS boxed games, you still need a Omega race box without the controller!

SS #23 Posted April 30, 2004 There is 1 more thing you smile_walle you will need if you really want to say you have them all the CBS boxed games, you still need a Omega race box without the controller! They were sold like that? Very strange. What was the point? Were the booster grips ever sold separately? Or was there a mail-in option?
