actually, I think I like this one better. has anyone had any experience with this one? also, where can you find adapters since this is supposed to work with the x-box, ps2, and dreamcast.

it is by x-arcade.

That first one is stocked in GameStop type places X-arcades can be bought from Fry's although we don't have them around my parts. I bought the 2-player X-arcade about a year ago off their website with the PS2 & DC adapters. Haven't had any complaints, although I don't honestly play fighters much. I'd recommend it, but you might have an easier time locating the first one you posted, shipping a big heavy controller can suck. :|

is the x-arcade a really good quality piece? I would rather pay more and get a nice heavy duty piece. also, have you ever tried it on the simpler games like pac-man and such? we love playing the classics so it would have to work with those.

X-arcade is high quality, but they use their own make of sticks & buttons, some people prefer to swap out with Wicos from Happs. They look almost identical just a slightly different feel. But I was very pleased with mine, just wish I played with it more. I've only used it with consoles thou, even thou I had originally planned to use with a MAME computer with tv out card hooked up in my gaming room. :ponder: I've yet to do that thou, and I don't have any space on my desk to really pull out and leave up. It's worked fine for my console gaming thou. :)

I cant say for that exact x-arcade stick but I've used x-arcade parts (Joystick and buttons) in the past and they are good quality. I'd buy from them again.

There is a version of that first one that has connections for all 3 current consoles IIRC.

I've been told that the X-Arcade sticks are not real high quality. This is coming from people at the Build Your Own Arcade Controls forum though. Most of the members there (myself included) tend to be super picky about controls.

Bear in mind that these are eight way microswitch sticks. Pac-Man and many other classics used four way leaf switch sticks, which have an entirely different feel. Many people find playing four way games to be frustrating with an eight way stick. My MAME cab has a dedicated four way stick. If you think you'll be playing a lot of four way games you might consider replacing the X-Arcade stick with a switchable four way/ eight way stick. I can highly recomend the Omnistick Prodigy, but it woudn't fit in an X-Arcade box without modification to either the box or the stick.

I recently built my own joystick for mame out of xarcade parts. Yes, they use microswitches and they have that clicking noise, but frankly, i like the microswitches. I haven't had any problem playing Pac-Man, I play pac Jr all the time with it. But if the 8 way operaqtion does annoy you, they are switchable sticks, you just you just take a bushing off of the bottom of the stick and turn it around and its works as a 4 way stick. If you build your own, they are considerably cheaper than happs. I was looking at paying 13 bucks per stick and 2 bucks per button from happs, but i got 2 sticks and 20 buttons as a bundle type deal from xarcade for 20 bucks.
